Losing facial hair... :/. Only solutions are steroid injection/cream...

Should I do it? Asking my LLMD next week, but just looking for opinions. I know steroids are awful for lyme but I can't stand losing patches of my facial hair (called alopecia Barbae, a type of alopecia areata localized in the beard)

I figured maybe a cream would be less harmful than an injection...but injections work better...

For what it's worth, this happened to me when I started taking my two 300mg rifampins together. Not sure If its a coincedence but I don't think so. Stopping that drug now...

I wouldn't encourage you to use any steroids while you have Lyme. Read the precautions on the steroids - they say not to use them while you have an infection for a reason. It will either make it much more difficult or unlikely that you will heal from Lyme if you use steroids.

Maybe it's time to think of a new look instead? At least for a while.

Yeah I figure. It just sucks because I have very thick, healthy facial hair and even when I do a clean shave there are two big streaks just going across my face. I guess I'll just have to get over it

Chances are good that you will be able to regrow your very full beard once you get further into your treatments or are healed though!!

Yup you are right. I believe it is adrenal/thyroid related...a lot of my symptoms are mental and it's nearly impossible to sleep. Ever since I stopped the rifampin I feel SOOO good though. I think it was just bad for my body

Alopecia is a Lyme symptom too - but whatever it is, I hope that it comes under control quickly for you!
