For me, my blood levels were all in the "low normal" ranges, so even my doc hesitated in treating - but I insisted that there was something going on in the same area as my thyroid. Since my Adrenals were so very depleted, she agreed that it could have drug down my thyroid anyway, so we started treatment for both Addisons (very low adrenals) and for hypothyroid.
After I had a lot of improvement in my swallowing, my doc told me that there are a very small amount of people who will have swelling only on the back side of their thyroid. This is hard to pick up on an ultrasound, so it can easily be missed and that is almost certainly what had happened to me.
Now reinfected with Lyme again, and I'm struggling to hold on to the improvements that I had gained with my adrenals and thyroid.
