I had a torn medial meniscus, and the orthopedic surgeon decided to test me for Lyme (ELISA & Western Blot through Quest). It came back positive. I did a combination of antibiotic and herbal treatment. Just doxycycline in 2004, but I don't remember how long I was on it. I had bad skin rashes and severe upset stomach on that, so I went herbal for further treatment. I did a combination of herbal treatment after that. I felt better after 3-4 years, but the last Western Blot showed more positive bands than the first one.
This time around, I'm just treating with herbs since I'm now extremely allergic to antibiotics. I've had reactions to doxycycline, keflex, amoxicillin, clindamycin, levaquin and vancomycin.
I'm responding well to the herbs I'm taking now, though I'm now also treating bartonella and babesia too. I have symptoms of both, even though I tested negative in the past. This time around, I am responding to treatment....its just not happening as fast as I want it to.
Ahh, yes Bartonella and Babesia were both suspected co-infections as well for me in 2009. But we only tested for Bartonella with a blood smear which came back positive by Fry Laboratory. The babesia was assumed based off the current symptoms in 2009. The doctor I had seen believes I had Lyme for at least a year before the testing even happened, he was suspecting Late Stage Lyme. Said that the Western Blot is consistent with it and if infection is persisting that the IgM can come back positive later on really depends on your immune response and such.
I haven't been on Doxy yet. Where are your skin rashes happening at? When I started getting skin rashes they were occurring mostly along my upper arms, across chest, back, and parts of neck. It wasnt raised or bumpy mostly just looked like a heat or flushed skin rash for no reason.
While I wasn't doing Lyme treatment I was trying herbal remedies and detoxes. But the biggest improvement I have ever felt was this Minocycline, both times now that I've tried it.
