Update on my progress after 30 days

HI, so I have been taking Mino now for 30 days. I have had a rollercoaster ride so far with herxing. I have felt so incredibly bad at times. With terrible nausea, fatigue, neck pain, body aches, on and on. I have felt much worse on treatment than off. This means the bugs are dying, yes!!!!!  I went to my Doctor today for my 3rd appointment. He has me switching from Mino to Flagel for month 2. We are going to do 10 days of Flagel and a biofilm buster and then switch to another abx for probably another month.

I asked him about the HH tea and he said to wait on that. He said he will be making me some tea in the next month to add to my treatment. I am very happy about that because up until now he has not mentioned herbals at all. I am very interested in treating with herbals.

I was worried that he was not treating me aggressively enough, only 1 abx at a time. He said that I am responding well and seems to take things slow, which is ok, I guess. I would like to move fast and get this over with, but I don't want to feel like complete death all of the time. He said that I am tolerating the treatment well and responding well. I was very happy with this.

I asked him about IV abx because he has brought this up at each visit so far. Saying that I may need them in the end if the orals don't work. He was the most optimistic this time saying that I may not need them, that I am improving at this time.

I start the Flagel Friday and my doctor thought that this would make me feel pretty bad again, but that meant the bugs were dying, so that is what we want.

Sounds like you are on a comprehensive path and that you are comfortable with it and comfortable with your LLMD. That's half the battle!

Slow and steady is the way to go. I started w/ my LLMD last Feb and I didn't start herbs until May and just started abx at the beginning of Nov! So you are not going to slowly. In fact, as I was reading your post I had to remind myself that while I get a little envious of people who seem to be moving so much more quickly than I have through their stages of treatment, that an aggressive approach is really counterproductive for people like us. You don't want to push things so far that your body gets overwhelmed and you can't detox effectively, your immune system gets wiped out, the infection(s) get the upper hand and you're back to square one (or worse).

Regarding IV abx… this is a very viable option but to be truthful, consider this only if you absolutely need it. I have insane GI issues and needed to avoid oral abx as much as possible (which it looks like I can't entirely but will cross that bridge when I get there). There are PICC lines and ports—either through which meds are distributed via your main artery from the heart or "intravenously". Personally, my IV has been a hassle and I continue to be plagued with problems (that others who have an IV aren't experiencing—so that's good that not everyone has problems with it). It's good that like me, you might be comforted knowing you have options.

And yes—when you have those setbacks it does usually mean the bugs are dying and that's our cue to kick up the detox a notch or two… That is sometimes the only thing that makes sense in this crazy condition…

Margaret, It is a tough ride! It was really tough to finally get the diagnosis. I may regret saying this, but I feel like not knowing what was wrong is worse than this treatment. I am not sure if I feel like I am getting better. It changes on a daily basis. I guess today the answer is yes, I do feel better. I mean I still feel bad, but today is a good day, yesterday was pretty good. Saturday was really bad. I think I am improving. Such a rollercoaster.

P- I am comfortable with my doctor and I can only say that after today. He is growing on me. He does not say much and is not overly optimistic but I finally see his plan for me and I agree. I think he know what he is doing. I feel like we are moving at a snails pace, but I can see that this is the way to go. What you said about your immune system really makes a lot of sense, thank you for that! I hope you continue to heel and feel better. You deserve it.

It's good to know that what I am experiencing on Minocin is "normal". Thanks for posting your symptoms. I have been on this abx since 11/18/2014 and was feeling great until 12/4 when I developed a neck ache...then flu-like aches...then the fatigue set in. Still dealing with the neck and fatigue today, but I think it's lessening. I'm on a liver detox pill called "LivPro" that was recommended to me and may need to add something else to the mix soon. Can't wait to feel better again. I'm curious to understand why your doctor switched up your abx. Did he share his reason? My 30 day mark is next week and my doctor is a man of few words so I have no idea yet what his next steps are....Thanks for chiming in.

The Diflucan was added at my request to combat any major yeast issues as I am prone to them when placed on abx. Thanks for the explanation on why you're now on Flagel. Maybe that will be my next drug as well. I did buy a skin brush today at Whole Foods along w/a complete multi-vitamin and probiotic in hopes of boosting my immunity and lessening the fatigue.

Looking forward to getting over this hump soon!
