Alternative to Tramadol ER

My doc started me on topamax a couple weeks ago for pain and I couldn't take it due to a terrible allergic reaction. He is now giving me Tramadol ER but I have having horrible side effects as well. I feel tense, and having bad chest pains, and my hands are trembling.

Is there a good long-acting pain medication he might be able to prescribe instead of tramadol? He doesn't like prescribing schedule 2 meds but he may be willing to if there are no alternatives.

Yes. Lyrica for certain. But it might also give you side effects. Are you detoxing? That's super important.

Most narcotic derivatives give me horrible side effects, so that's out (except for Lyrica).

I do stretching and yoga every few days. Ginger in the bathtub helps.

Take lots of Curcumin.

yes, lots of detoxing. i take gabapenin sometimes but gives me terrible side effects so don't really take it regularly. Can't do baths either due to my extreme allergies/autoimmune issues. I take lots of turmeric which helps some but not nearly enough.

Oh boy. I think Lyrica will give you side effects too then.

Why can't you take baths? It's basically just water. Epsom Salts and/or clay (which is, umm, dirt) shouldn't hurt.

If it's the chlorine, take two tsps. of powdered vit. C, swirl it around in the bathwater, wait five minutes, and most of the chlorine will be gone.

If the bath makes you sick, it might be bc you're detoxing too much and too hard. Use warm (not hot) water, and reduce the amount of time you spend in the bath. I stay 10 to 15 minutes tops). Don't use a lot of Epsom Salts--maybe 1/2 a cup.

i have severe sensitivies. not sure why i can't take a bath. i had an anaphylactic reaction last time I did. I think it may have something to do with mast cells.

I also developed an allergic reaction to clay of all things. Get anaphylaxis from that as well as a number of other common things that I didn't used to be allergic to.

Well, forget the clay then!

I wonder if you were allergic to the cleanser? I use old shampoo to clean my tub. As a matter of fact, I use no artificial cleanser.

Do you filter your water?

That's awful; to be allergic to so many things.

I'm allergic to a lot of things too, and people don't judge too kindly, unfortunately.

I.E., "Just don't eat as much of it!"

well, before i had my basement kitchen installed i used the tub to try to clean off a bunch of my old items that were exposed to a mold (that seemed to affect noone but me) at my old house. I rinsed out the tub with bleach and water before using it. The only thing I can think of is maybe some of the mold was caught in the drain and then filled up with the bath water. But it was a clay bath too....so more likely it was just the clay.

I'm going to do some heavy duty tub cleaning tomorrow and try and epsom salt bath.

i think my water is good, just very soft. it's reverse osmosis filtered well water.

my allergies are crazy. i'm allergic to all nuts now and i used to practically live on them. I used marijuana for years to control my pain then developed an anaphylactic reaction to it. i'm scared to go to concerts now......lol

i would like to see a naturopathic doctor and see what they recommend for pain. I don't think my insurance would cover it but I could probably afford one appointment and see if they can give me any advice.

hydrogen peroxide baths sound like a good idea. maybe i'll give that a try.

Sounds like major issues with diamine oxidases. I'd be interested in what your copper levels were.

what makes you say that? how does diamine oxidase effect allergies?

You have too much histamine production. You may be in the 1% of people who have a decrease of DAO and can't break down histamine. Either way, a histamine free or reduced histamine diet may be beneficial. I would think limiting protein would be beneficial. Change what you eat until you find what is best for you.

Anyways, I have tried the DAO approach before. I have taken the enzymes and follow a low histamine diet with no real improvement. I think I am dealing with an autoimmune issue rather than a true allergy.

Correct, and the autoimmune issues are most likely caused by pathogens. Which pathogens is the question?
