We have been using sida acuta tincture since Apr 2013. At first we used 1/4 tsp (35 drops) TID, but since adding CSA (Nov 2013) we have backed down to 5 drops TID (10 of those contained in our CSA doses which are BID (8am and 9pm). The other 5 drops I dose at 3pm.
Julie says that low doses over the long term are as effective as higher doses over the short term. The only herb I have found in his books that he recommends not to take long term is Artemisia. The rest have been used prophylactically for the long term in other countries. For instance cryptolepis tea is used daily in Africa against malaria infection.
During our last consult with Julie I questioned whether we should be weaning some of the herbs. She said no, to keep treating. At the moment we are using sida, houttuynia, CSA, bidens, JK, red root, hawthorne, milkthistle, green tea - well and other vits/supplements. All herbal dosages are approx. 1/4 of Buhner's recommendations. JK is the only one we can tolerate at full dose.
Girlie - you seem to be heading in the right direction with Buhner's protocols. Please consider purchasing his books, Herbal Antivirals, Herbal Antibiotics (2nd edition) and the mycoplasma/bart coinfections books. They explain far more than I am able to.
