The "What IF" question!

Ok, so here I am going along my way, feeling good and pregnant (well, my morning sickness doesn't help, LOL)

Anyway, I am doing great, with a few leftover nerve damage symptoms (sometimes herxlike, twitches will increase, slight pinchiness here and there).....

I am going to see my LLMD in 2 weeks. Haven't seen her in 2 months, bc I haven't needed to!

So, the big question - What if........I have some lyme bacteria still floating around in my system?

My Dr will probably say this - that if I don't have an overall issue, in the sense that my body does not feel inflamed or irritated or sick from anything, then she is probably correct that what lingers is toxin buildup and leftover damage.

Anything else you guys can think of that can be markers to make a decision? Another marker I have made on my own is my body temp. When I had lyme my temp was always over 99.3 - now it is just at 98.6, where it should be.

Would it hurt to take amoxicillin the last few months of my pregnancy? Would it be better to be safe than sorry and make sure I don't pass on any lyme germs to my baby?

Any thoughts would be appreciated, thanks!!!!

why did you take immune boosters after 12 weeks? honestly, my diet has not been good bc of Christmas and all of the cookies and things. Gonna clean it all up starting tomorrow. honestly though, despite all of the cheating I did, this is the healthiest I have eaten compared to all of my other pregnancies!

I don't think taking abx the last few weeks would do much either, since by then the baby will have been exposed to whatever may be left in your system (if you really do have anything left) for the entire time already. I too think that you will know what to do when the time comes.

Don't forget that you are now very well educated with all things Lyme and I know that you will be watching very closely for any signs of Lyme while this little one grows up!

I think getting the cord blood tested is one of the best things to do though. It's the best thing we have at this time.

And I agree with P!! Thank you for posting about the happy news on here!! It's sure uplifting to 'watch' you two ladies have such wonderful experiences after having been here going through this with us!

Chapelle - I hope that your pregnancy is at least as good as Beth's and that both of your deliveries are a breeze!!! And pictures!!! If you feel safe in doing so, post a pic of your beautiful baby for us when they are born!!!!!!

Chapelle! I think it's your call really. Trust your inner intuition and let it guide you! I think you will know what is right for you and your baby.

I think in my experience Lyme keeps coming back slightly, so I have to keep stopping antibiotics and then restarting them. This approach seems to be working well for me. There are always Lyme persistors at a rate of 5% for each 3-6 week growth cycle. They survive by simply turning their metabolism off and play dead. I personally don't think you got every last germ, I remember you posting after that you had some mild symptoms going on like a shoulder ache, hip ache, muscle spasms, and some foot pain. But maybe your immune system is keeping it all under control? Perhaps you can get by with some stuff to boost your immune system? Or you can just take the amoxicillin to be safe. Maybe it will help you get rid of those last few germs, and prevent your baby from being infected? I don't think amoxi harms people at all from what I read, or the immune system (as long as people aren't allergic). LLMDs give amoxi to patients when their livers and kidneys start to test abnormally, so really I think it's one of the safer abx to take. Just gotta take nystatin and probiotics to keep your digestive tract healthy while on it. Maybe consider taking some pregnancy safe immune boosters and the amoxi?

Lyme is a sneaky infection though. It's a tough call really. Also there is no test to measure your bacterial load, and there is no known safety margin where it's safe to say Lyme will not be transmitted to your baby because you finished treatment.
