The patient suffered from high fever, headache, muscle aches, and nausea before eventually dying from multiple organ failure.[7] The individual who contracted the virus demonstrated laboratory abnormalities similar to the tick-borne illnesses from the heartland virus and ehrlichiosis. The abnormalities seen were a decrease in his white and red cell counts, an increase in liver enzyme levels, and decreased appetite."

The heartland virus was in Missouri.

Yes—a couple people posted this story.

It is quite alarming - Bourbon County borders KS and Missouri, hence the name. Skeptics have chimed in about the possible association with the relocated Plum Island facility, which people believe to have been moved to KS (although I think the new location was the Salina area, which is not real close but that is likely irrelevant and—I kept finding confusing info as to whether it was actually ever relocated or still in the planning stage but stopped looking).

From what I could understand from numerous articles I read about the situation—they know or are saying almost nothing about this case.

I am in the KC metro area, although on the MO side. I remember hearing about Plum Island moving to Manhattan (KSU) a few years ago and I was angry.

My gut feeling he is not the only one to be infected thus far, just sadly the first to succumb to it.
