I think this is the same video posted a couple of days ago? Maybe I'm making things up again?

Anyway, I really enjoyed that lecture—tons of heady science—enough to be impressive but I could keep up with enough of it to get the main points. I found this piece about the infection in the brain causing violent behavior disturbing, though:

Encephalopathy and immune reactions (proinflammatory and auttoimmune mechanisms) resulting in:

cognitive impairments (check)
sensory hyperacusis (check)
decreased frustration intolerance and impulse control (check)
intrusive sx of aggressive nature (check)
mood instability (check)
depersonalization (check)
dissociative states (check)
paranoia (check)
psychosis
social anxiety contributing to social isolation (check)
altered sexual behavior (check)
decreased bonding capacity (check)
loss of empathy (check)
decreased facial recognition (sorta)
decreased emotional insight (check)
decreased tolerance to the effects of drugs/alcohol (check)

should I just stay indoors???? :(

LOL! If that's the case, P, I should have given up long ago!! I've got quite a few of those symptoms back again too - so I should have been locked up long ago! Oops! Don't want to give anyone any ideas!

It's actually quite scary when you get in to the depths of these discussions, and miraculous that we can heal from all of these things too!

Yes, the disturbing violent behavior and ALL that goes with it is what he had/has at age 15/16 and what we've been dealing with for over a year.

It's destroyed our family and marriage and ruined his first two years in HS - he could have been top 10 in his class and used to have a lead in school plays, was just about to finish his road to Eagle in scouting with a project and missed the high adventure in NM. this summer with scouts from his troop. A horrible year with a person we no longer knew... he started to come back to us in Nov. and get loving calm and nice, tics and ocd subsiding... now he's trying to get back to school, we shall see....

I'm so sorry Lmc Mom—
Your journey has been so difficult. To experience this illness is one thing. To watch your own child struggle is something I cannot even imagine. My illness struck in my 20s and 30s and it changed the course of my life—and I've destroyed and missed out on key things in life that I can never recover. I have to balance anger about that with acceptance and refusal to let this ruin any more of my life and focus on my treatment.

But you've made significant progress this year. And he is slowly recovering—only with the invaluable efforts you've made and the unquantifiable love of a mother. You are no match for this disease! We're all rooting for you! I am absolutely certain that you will eventually post about his first year in college and all of the mundane events involved in such a significant part of his future life. ;)

Oh Pirouette, you are SO KIND to me and I so need the encouragement - bless you! I pray you are right! Hopefully he gets well and stays in remission and follows protocol for life. I can't imagine he would ever want to be this way again and I will not be alive forever to care for him. I worry he would be a homeless person on the street without care. I would always be back to encourage and give back, that is how people should be.

I already have 2 out of 6 with lyme and my daughter is big on plants and research, so I'm thinking it's a matter of time. Plus, the deer are in our yard my the multitudes and we have a dog who sleeps with us..... oh my. Love those boys of yours - you sounds like a GREAT mom!

LP - THANK YOU as always, I know I'm always bugging you and a few others up here - you are all so good to me to put up with me :)
