I am having such a hard time remembering some of the thyroid research I did awhile back. But I came out of it pretty certain that the controversy was really more of a lack of appropriately applied context—as with most health conditions—the type of iodide consumed version iodine, additives and dosing levels for hashimoto's conditions, etc.
But I can't remember a few key things about the absorption of iodine vs ingestion. I know the absorption is preferred since your body will regulate how much it needs (thus the test). And as I type this, I think that I just answered my own question—as long as the application is topical, my body will absorb only what it needs so much less chance for overdose. I started to get curious if the increased palpitations and mind racing I was experiencing a couple of times might be connected.
Unfortunately, I can't rely on testing—it just doesn't accurately reflect my levels or—how my levels affect how I feel. After thinking about this a bit more, I think the weekly dose is probably not an issue—but will pay careful attention to the increased heart rate.
I just discovered I have another perhaps more important issue—the iodine antisceptic they've been giving me is iodine with Povidone additive, or PVC… the plastic. Using it transdermally is suggested to be equivalent to injecting it—bypasses digestive filtration and decomposition. Off to read a bit more…
