Latest scare tactic warns that chronic Lyme diagnosis can lead to "permanent damage or death."

The CDC has launched yet another volley in its continuing propaganda war against the Lyme community. This time, it’s a new anti-chronic Lyme video posted on YouTube and the CDC website.

They have some points, but how many other illnesses are also misdiagnosed, and people die. As common as cancer is, I knew someone who was misdiagnosed with nerve pain - it was cancer all along, and hes dead now.

The guy was misdiagnosed (he did not have lyme) but their true aim in this video is to advocate Infectious disease specialist who use FDA approved tests. Fortunately, he is better now (was a brain tumor).

Nothing is mentioned on the basis of his lyme diagnosis. LLMDs like all MD's can make mistakes.

What they (CDC in video) dont mention is how many people WITH lyme are diagnosed with something else, or nothing at all.

But, most people with chronic lyme have checked out other posibilites, for years sometimes.

Wow there is no shame in their game.

I'm sorry the guy was misdiagnosed and I'm sorry he has complications because of it. But they are completely changing the point he was trying to make. He is clearly stating that there are blatant flaws in the way doctors handle patients. He said he was dismissed and told it was all in his head, but clearly no doctor decided to do any sort of MRI or CT scan or anything to check. One test and they would have caught it early but instead sent him on his way. They often misdiagnose and prescribe way to many meds without proper testing.

Tests and second opinions are always vital. I always want them. I don't care how much a test is, if it is going to tell me If I'm going to live or die then I want it. I know money makes the world go round, but I think it is so sad to hear that someone couldn't afford this treatment or that test that could have helped. I don't think there should be a price on saving someone's life or improving someone's health. It should be available to everyone who needs it.

I know there is politics and money wrapped in everything and taxes would be astronomical but it's still wrong. I always hated when I went to the doctor and without any testing or discussion he suddenly pulled a diagnosis out of his head and prescribed me something. I always want tests and second opinions. Actually I want a committee of doctors working on me and discussing options and treatment plans, no matter how big or small the issue. Leaving our fate in the hands of one person, who isn't considerate enough to take several minutes to order a test or conduct an examination is stupid. I don't care if the doctor spent a million dollars to go to the best schools with the best teachers and trained at the best hospitals and has 50 plus years of experience, that doesn't guarantee they are right 100% of the time.

All this video proves is that the system failed and unfortunately this poor guy had to pay the price for it. And clearly the CDC has no intention of trying to fox it or make it better. Just pass blame.

Sorry for the rant but this video made me so mad. And yes I clearly have issues with some of my doctors.

As I read "Cure Unknown" and become aware of the CDC's absolutely shameful behavior in regards to "just" Lyme testing, I am actually wondering about conspiracy.

I'm not sure what the conspiracy is about....it could be as "simple" as the CDC wanting a cookie-cutter approach for disease to help set standards for treatment. Not surprisingly, Big Pharma could benefit from this and, of course, patients continue to suffer.

I see this with thyroid disease also and have become pretty confident that it's widespread across the entire disease spectrum.

It's despicable.

There is a part in Under our Skin that points out the corruption with certain CDC honchos surrounding Lyme, testing, FDA, Big Pharma.

And then there is the stolen van from Plumb Island in the early 70's during the worker strike.

The CDC is a government agency. And it was the government that mutated lyme bacteria into the tougher weaponized version we see today - on Plumb Island.

The US has long time and continues to tests chemicals and illnesses on it people. We had a thread here on this two weeks ago. There is now public info on testing the population in various ways - some links were posted on this. For all we know Plumb Island might be made public in the future, and they will down play it.

Ok so I haven't seen Under our Skin yet so maybe they answer this in the movie, but... How much evidence is there behind the government weaponizing the Lyme spirochete? I believe in a couple of things that might be considered "conspiracies", but extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence right? Do they provide a lot of evidence in the movie or is there another place to look up more about this claim?

Wow that CDC video is really strange. Did Robert ever get tested for Lyme? Either through IgeneX or the blood culture test? I'm sorry for Robert but this video is ridiculous. Let's compare how many people got diagnosed and treated for Lyme disease that didn't have it verses the number of people who have Lyme disease and don't get diagnosed and treated for it. I don't have those data but I suspect the undiagnosed or misdiagnosed Lyme cases overwhelmingly outnumber the false positives for Lyme.

They found a perfect case study in that guy. I'm glad he got on the right track in time. Looks like most of his doctors failed him, too. That's my take-away…

What that has to do with the other million people who have lyme and aren't getting dx or tx properly remains a mystery. And let us take one of his statements, "Had I been diagnosed sooner, I wouldn't be going through what I'm going through right now." I hear ya, dude. So do the million+ people suffering needlessly.

This is mind-bloggling that tax-payers are funding this type of convoluted marketing. And the CDC has no business getting involved in promoting health issues like this—they are a reporting body for trends in health occurrence or in other words, reporting on disease stats. WTH.

I was on the fence about a conspiracy—and from various statements I've read, I really don't think there is a bonafide, broadly based conspiracy. I think it is a shocking combination of a perfect storm:
- a completely overwhelmed medical industry, several cultural trends that put Big Pharma in control of the government, the insurance companies, research, the entire medical industry and our fate.
- Certainly the carelessness of the biochemical weapons research played a role.
- And all this crashing into global climate change that has allowed these species to mutate.
- And out dated notions that it's only a problem for certain geographical areas certainly gets no one's attention. The timing is absolutely horrible for us.

But I seriously doubt there is any faction in government or in the medical profession capable of organizing a broad conspiracy. We will limp along until major changes can be made. I think there is no coincidence that the progress made at the state levels (and Canada!) in loosening the punishment for alternative care has spooked the powers that be. I want to know where the grant money came from for this ridiculous campaign. Follow the money...

LOL—yes, let's crash the system, by all means. I can't remember if I've ever made a comment on youtube before so not sure how long it takes. I know it takes several hours on other websites that don't engage a specific "system" like Disqus or something. I guess we wait!

To say I am blown away with what I'm reading is an understatement. Unfortunately for us Lymies, I agree with you. Our luck could be better ;)

No need to suggest an alternative diagnosis really.

So this guy had Lyme and a brain tumor? But the tumor was undiagnosed. So why is he blaming Lyme when the countless other docs misdiagnosed him as well.

I take that back—there is something different about this video posting—I still don't see anyone else's comments. Perhaps they have rigged something to disable public viewing of comments. Probably smart.

And 7 people on staff at the marketing company hired by the CDC or on the IDSA board have given the video a thumbs up. A total of 94 thumbs down from those who know the truth.. I'm going to copy and paste my comment onto the lymedisease.org site and make mention that none of the comments are showing up on youtube…
