Hi folks,
My LLMD will be weaning me off abx next month as I start the herbal protocol of my choice (he gave me a choice of 3 and I picked Cowden mostly for the simplicity of it).
I've already started the detox tinctures to prepare my body for the herxing I anticipate as the herbals attack the cyst forms, biofilm and any possible co-infections (I tested negative for them and have never had a clear indication I was dealing with any).
Symptoms are at an all-time low for me.....super-mild and occasional buzzing and/or poking sensations in my legs - mostly the left leg.
And, after reading about
Monolaurin on here and doing a bunch of research, I decided to try it in the hopes of enhancing my immune function.
Thanks to the generous members on here, I knew to start off slowly and slowly increase my dose.
That said, I took my first 1100mg capsule (approx. equal to 1/3 teaspoon) this past Tuesday morning with my second dose on Wednesday morning.
Well, some of my old symptoms have returned - numb/cold face....hands a bit cricky...buzzing increased in intensity. Yep, I started herxing.
I'm thrilled to report that following Cowden's dosing instructions when herxing worked for me!!! I took 10 drops each of burbur and pinella every 10 minutes until the symptoms stopped (and I threw in some ASG for good measure ;)
It took 4 doses of burbur and pinella - not bad.
I took my 3rd dose of Monolaurin yesterday morning and, by afternoon, the numb/cold face returned (but not as bad as what I had)....buzzing slightly more intense. 2 doses of burbur and pinella along with ASG did the trick.
I'm still dealing with ever-so-slightly more intense buzzing than I had before starting Monolaurin.
All of that said, when is it appropriate to increase the dose?
And, what is a common maintenance dose?
Thanks to all who post!

im curious to learn more too. My husband has a patient with lyme who told him that she had great success with monolaurin and that I should give it a try.
What is ASG?
the burbur/pinella didn't do anything for me at all. Im glad it worked for you.

Here's some info on monolaurin that I found during earlier research:

ASG = Alka Seltzer Gold

Is that the brand that you purchased???
Are you getting capsules or pellets?

cd3764- Each capsule is 550mg. so did you take one cap or two? If it's one then increasing by 550mg. is too much. That's why I recommend getting the pellets so you can dose up easier. I couldn't dose up 300mg. at a time with the Ecological Formulas 300mg. caps. It was just too much of a jump and believe me my symptoms are on the mild side as well.

Sorry it took so long to get back here. Yesterday took on a life of its own lol
Even though I'd stumbled upon the Inspired Nutrition site when researching Monolaurin, I bought another brand on Amazon that had great reviews. (Health from the Sun)
It was after I did this that I discovered the need to titrate more slowly.
And, ToddPaul - thanks for straightening me out. Yes, the individual capsules contain 550mg and I'm only taking one (based upon your advice on another thread :)
I must admit that, once I figure things out for myself, I sometimes forget the details - not good when sharing info with others. mea culpa
The Inspired Nutrition site lists 1 scoop = 1 tsp = 3000mg monolaurin
And, the dosing instructions indicate that it's appropriate to start with 1/2 scoop and increase by that amount until one gets to the desired dose (up to 1 scoop TID).
I thought I could safely add another cap in the evening (1100mg total dose)....and then slowly increase from there.
Now that I've been taking 550mg Monolaurin for 5 days, the herx symptoms are even milder and smaller amounts of burbur/pinella (along with my trusty ASG dose) are eliminating them quickly.
Since my LDN arrived in the mail today and I want to start *that* tomorrow, I think I'm going to hold tight with the 550mg dose of Monolaurin.......and I'll probably consider increasing the dose once my bottle is empty and I'll then switch to Inspired Nutrition brand.
Thanks for the support!!
