In my experience, (15 yr RN in IM), docs tend to see the patient through whatever lens their specialty happens to wear.
I go to an ID doc, he sees I don't have a fever, rash, or scary signs today and sends me away. I see a hematologist, he finds out I don't have leukemia and sends me on my way with no further eval for a high wbc. I see a cardio, he wants to give me a beta blocker but brushes off the possibility of an infectious agent causing cardiac conduction system issues. On and on; this is an old story for us.
Now, if you're lucky enough to find (and can afford) a neurologist who specializes in treating pediatric Lyme pts according to ILADS guidelines, that would be quite a needle to find in a mighty large haystack! But I assure you, a conventional peds neuro would not be the one to bring a child with Lyme to. That's my view, based on my knowledge, training, and experience.
