Did/do you have mold, and high C4a levels?

I know there are a few who tested positive for mold here. I made a post questioning the $700 Real Time Labs mold test around December / Jan.

****So, I was wondering is those that tested positive for mold ALSO tested high in the C4a test with can be used for monitoring mold and lyme.***

***Or- has mold and reads low in C4a tests- that would mean C4a is not very accurate. Drs have told me C4a is VERY accurate. ***

Those two will raise the C4a values, and was told these were accurate. Before my lyme ABX I was high in C4a, now I'm normal range. So, I should not have mold either then, and I can save $700 by not taking the Real Time Labs mold test.

(Its quite obvious that I dont 100% believe Drs opinions any more. LOL, Why should anyone?)

I don't know if this helps, but I tested with high C4a levels (more than double what they are supposed to be). But I did not test positive for mold exposure. I don't have any issues with mold.

From what I know high C4a measures inflammation in your body, doesn't necessarily mean mold exposure.

I might not have explained this too clearly. (At least I'm consistent LOL).

1)For what its worth, I have been told by three Drs that elevated C4a is from inflammation caused by mold or lyme.

2) My c4a WAS elevated but went down to normal after lyme ABX, some lyme symptoms improved as well..

3) So if #1 ( above) is true, I should not have mold either, since my C4a in now normal.


I'm just checking with people to see if this C4a test correlates with their mold condition.- double checking what three Drs told me. Because I dont want to throw $700 away on the Real Time Mold test if I dont need to (if the C4a test really is that accurate for mold).

If your C4a is still high, you still have enough Lyme left to elevate this test. (from what I've been told).

Dancingbear* -mold symptoms are another subject - start another thread maybe, it could get very LONG. There is a long over lapping list.

So far my C4A is within normal range and mold tests have been negative. But who knows.

I just had this test. My c4a is super high. c3a is normal. My LLMD said Lyme is "strong" in me. He used C4a all the time. He though I may have detox / mold issues too based on a couple different gene tests not c4a. There are specific separate tests for mold.

A good c4a link from big brother. It's about lyme though not mold.

Hi Astroman- I've had severe mold exposure and went to a doctor that specializes in mold. I'm trying to look through my bloodwork to see if I was tested for this. Is there possibly another name for it or is this a specific test. I was tested multiple time for "Complement C4, serum" and "Complement C3, serum". Could that be what you're referring to? Not sure because I believe these tests are related to immune function.

I have been doing the Real Time Labs tests but am not aware of a blood test that can be used in its place. My doctor also did a lot of testing thru Quest testing my antibody levels to specific types of mold - Aspergillus Fumigatus, Stachbotrys Chartarum, etc. Sure enough the molds that I was exposed to (we had done an environmental test on the house) showed high on my blood work. Those levels all went back to normal range as I treated.

Yes, its called and printed with this case type " C4a".

Its just a numerical value, which is used as a "red flag" to proceed with more specific and expensive testing if its elevated- lyme or mold.

Yes I forgot to mention I had a Real time labs mold test too and I was high. I also have high c4a. My LLMD keeps on referring back to Real time labs for mold issues not the c4a. He pretty much said the exact same thing @Greenblue said that c3a c4a is related to immune function for Lyme.

I suppose most people here will have elevated C4a (with or without mold) since they have lyme. I am one of the few whose C4a is now normal. It is related to both, which can be confusing for us.

Wish there was a more affordable alternative to Real Time Labs.

I hear you ... I was lucky my insurance picked up Real time labs test.....one of the very very few they did
