When CD57 results are low (33) is that a sign of Lyme or could any tick born disease cause it to be low?

I'm sorry, I don't know the specific answer to your question. However, I do know that other tick borne diseases rarely appear without Lyme included.

I think it's Lyme specific, because you rarely have other TB diseases without Lyme...

Actually, from what I've read, they don't really know what all can make the CD57 low. While for many low CD57 readings can indicate chronic Lyme, some who are incredibly sick with Lyme can have high CD57 levels, while those that are dealing with relatively light or few symptoms can have a severely depressed CD57 reading. It's only one part of the picture, so you have to look at other tests and your symptoms to know what a low CD57 might mean for you.

My son has tested positive for HHV-6, Mycoplasma Pneumonia, Anaplasma phagocytophilum, Babesia WA1, a protozoa and his CD57 is 33. He has tested negative for Lyme. I was wondering if this CD57 would be taken as a positive Lyme? There are still more tests that we haven't gotten results for yet.

It seems like such a long list...

No - the CD57 by itself is not an indicator of Lyme. Does he have Lyme symptoms? That could bring it around to a yes -as you know just because he has a negative test doesn't mean that he doesn't have Lyme.

And with having a positive for Babesia, it raises his chances of having Lyme as well, since we know that it's usually a whole host of infections that are passed with a tick bite.

And honestly, if it were my son, it would seem like a very long list as well - but the truth is that many have more infections than that and heal well.

I hope that the other test results that you are waiting on will help reveal the full picture of what he's dealing with.

Traveler is correct - CD57 is not a reliable marker, and is most definitely not considered a positive test for lyme.

When I was initially sick my number was 45, then while I was treating it went up to 52, and now, after I am pretty much healed, it is 37! It does not make any sense. I do have some leftover yeast issues, but I am surely no longer sick.

As everyone else said, hopefully the other tests will help figure out what is going on!
