I'm just curious, how many people here have ONLY Lyme, and no co-infections at all?

That's my diagnosis. But I'm not so sure. It's so hard to tell with so many symptoms that overlap.

I know, it's really confusing.

Everybody always says it's really rare to only contract Lyme.

It really is unusual for someone to just get Lyme when they get infected. As far as I know, my second time around has been with just Lyme. That's all I've treated for and don't seem to have any symptoms of other infections even now after I've been off of treatments for 35 days now.

I tested Igenex/CDC positive for Lyme and negative for the co's.

We all know that the tests aren't the best and the diagnoses of all are clinical.

I've been VERY fortunate that I've never had any symptoms that point to a co.

It's my understanding that early Lyme treatment can wipe out co's before they get started....

When you say "early lyme treatment can wipe out cos" what do you mean by early?

I know I was sick for at least a year before I was even diagnosed or started treatment...

A year is not early treatment! Early means getting antibiotics either as a prophylactic right after the bite, or when the bull's eye rash appears.

My close friend has only Lyme. He is CDC positive ( one of the few ) but has been working all along. It took him about 6 months to start treatment. He isn't perfect but his symptoms are very mild.

He sleeps / is tired a lot now which is crazy because before Lyme he was a hyper type. A lot of joint pain also. Some very general weight loss too. That's it.

I am wondering if this is one of the reasons why the CDC is so lax on their Lyme standards ( I understand the other reasons)? Lyme is a "cover all" for many other tick/bug co-infections and disables immune system enough to let other bugs wreak havoc?

I don't agree that early treatment with general abx wipes out all co-infections. Babesia is protozoan malaria type. Requires very specific meds. I was on common general abx for a while and it did nothing for Babesia. I think what @CD was referencing was that certain drugs like doxy can be used for a bunch of different co-infections at once. That isn't a cover all. ILADS mentions their are certain specific co.s that require specific meds.
