update, my latest doctor's appointment

Hi fellow lymies,

So I had my follow up doctor’s appointment yesterday and it was a good one. I was tested for the MTHFR gene mutation and I have one of the mutations. My doctor was looking at the results and said, “this is a real find!”. So he was pretty excited. Having the mutation that I have means that you don’t process folic acid, or only process it at 40% of what you should. Folic acid has thousands of different uses in the body. Detox and something to do with serotonin are 2 of them. It is a simple pill I need to take to get things going. The pill is Folate. Your body turns folic acid into the usable form, folate. So that process in me is broken. I am hopeful that this will make a difference. My progress has been slow, if at all up until now.

Second, I have been talking with traveler and she gave me an article written by a professor of traditional Chinese medicine. Some of what was said contradicted what my doctor has told me, but not all. I gave him this article and asked if he would take a look at it. He read some of it while I was there. He was in agreement with a lot of it and was open to the parts he did not know. I asked him if he would like the web site I got it from and he said he knew the professor that wrote it, but he did take the article that I brought. That is really great. I am pretty happy with that. I hope he reads the article fully.

He also added some new herbs to the tea he has me drinking. I showed him the list of herbs that are in chronic tonic and he said that the herbs he is giving me are comparable.

I am feeling cautiously optimistic after this last appointment. I have a few more blood tests that should be in by my next appointment in 3 weeks. I am hopeful that my progress will speed up. I feel a lot happier and more clear today, but I am not sure if it is because of the new pills I am taking or because the sun is finally out. Wish me luck, I need it.

And best part is that he was open to the information and will likely be looking more things up!!

And congrats on finding that gene mutation! Now you know how to deal with that too!!

It's like peeling an onion - peal off one layer to find the next one that needs to be dealt with.

My doc that I used to heal the first time was a student of the author of that article, so I understand your excitement at your doc's knowing him too!! It's reassuring too!
