Haven't posted here in a long time. the good news is I'm feeling very good.
Just started amoxicillin and zithro and as indicated in the title, my liver enzymes and bilirubin are a bit off. This is making me very nervous.
GONNA drop the Zithro but stay on the amoxicillin. I'm somewhat self treating myself. Should I be scared? Getting rechecked this week and starting milk thistle and curcumin

My liver enzymes - ALT have been higher than normal since starting antibiotics...but went even higher on Tinidazole.
My LLND will probably pull the Tini from my protocol when I see him next.
How long have you been on antibiotics? Is amox and zithro your first ones?

Elevated liver enzymes happen with antibiotics, not uncommon. Alpha lipoic acid might be better than milk thistle.
Was your bilirubin elevated before? If so, this is usually found accidental in blood testing and is called Gilbert's syndrome. There is a specific gene mutation responsible for this.

I have Gilbert's syndrome, so I ignore my elevated bilirubin levels.
Astro - I started Alpha lipoic acid and L-cysteine (per llnd's recommendation to lower my liver ALT test) - was already taking milk thistle.
I gave the additions 10 days and retested (per llnd's request) and the ALT didn't come down...do you think that was too soon?
Also, I may just have to stop Tinidazole.

Girlie-
My liver enzymes would only normalize when I'd take a break from ABX. AL acid would lower it a little, but not to normal levels. Per genetic testing and muscle testing- milk thistle is not good for me. Might have something to do with Gilberts Syndrome, I'm not sure.
I have learned that Gilberts syndrome does have negative effects on the bodies chemistry-from a liver standpoint. The livers ability to detox works in conjunction with many other body chemistry "maps", loops ect. and this actually matters to some extent. It was explained to me, over my head though.
Conventional medicine has ignored G Syndrome forever.

Astro - are you saying, I will have trouble detoxing do to Gilbert's syndrome...
Maybe that's why my progress has been slow.

Astro - I went to the website - I don't really know what to make of it.
Are there things I should be staying away from with Gilbert's syndrome, or does it depend on which genetic defect I have?
I have never had any problems before...found out I had it when I was 18. But, my levels aren't really high.

that site doesnt get too specific on what to do, its more of an awareness site..
A "genetic literate" MD told me GS is part of my detoxing issue, it is for anyone with it, but they might not notice if they're in a healthy body state. Just one of the details.
Have you ever had yellow jaundice?
Have you done 23andme testing? I recomend it. Its better if you can find a Dr that knows all this though.
Genetics are part of the reason that some get chronic lyme and some dont.

When I was a teenager - my eyes were a little bit yellowish - but not my skin, that's why we tested and found out I had Gilbert's.
It could be that with Gilbert's syndrome, alcohol exasperates it. And I was partying a lot in high school...
But, that went away when I was in my early twenties.
I have never suffered from fatigue...or any other health issues.
So, I guess - keep on detoxing.
I have thought about
23andme, but I'm pretty sure my LLND wouldn't know what to do with the results.
Would it hurt if I switched to the B Vitamins that people take when they have the MTHFR issue? How would it harm someone who does not have the methylation issue?

I'm not great on this genetic stuff, just starting. It seems like those with genetic issues have more hat a few that feed off each other. That said there are some bodies that dont use B12 or B6 correctly, and it can build up. I had these tested, I think B6 build up is tied to Gilberts (If I remembered correctly). My LLMD doesnt know about
this stuff either, I went on MTHFR site to find one. MTHFR gets all the attention, others are important too.

astro - did you have high b6 and B12?
I tested my B12 when symptoms first started and it was high - I think it was just under 900. But I had been supplementing with 2000 mcg of methyl b12 daily for a few months prior to test.
I now only take it once a week or so. I'm going to get retested along with my Vit. D. I won't be able to get a B6 test done - my Dr. won't do it.
I used to take folic acid daily...started it when prior to getting pregnant...and noticed it cleared up my digestive issues that I had all my life.
I stopped the folic acid and B complex supplementation now ...worried if I have a methylation issue that it will make things worse.

B6 toxicity, (without supplementation). Dr suspected and was dead on per my genetic report.
b12 was fine.
