Can someone tell me what quercetin is for?
Someone just mentioned it in another post, and seemed to imply it was for detox(??). Thought I'd start a new thread as didn't want to hijack the other thread and it was only mentioned in passing. I've just started taking it as part of my new treatment plan, but not sure what it's for :-/. I kind of hope it IS helpful for detox, as I'm having a hard time with new abx (minocycline and rifampicin) causing herxing I think.
Anyone know anything about
this supplement?
Thanks

It's a natural antihistamine and antioxidant. It might be good for detox, not sure, but it certainly shouldn't be your only form of detox. Did you see the suggestions for Detox in the new to Lyme thread?

Dr. Singleton recommends quercetin for detox in his book "The Lyme Disease Solution".
I took 250-500mg with every dose of abx and now take the same amounts with every dose of Cowden antimicrobials.
I've also taken it when herxing and found it helps.

I can't answer your question but it does inhibit COMT so low doses would be advised. I'll research it tonight and see what I can find.

I use a product that has it and vitamin C for my sinus congestion and it helps. I don't have an infection, just stuffy. It's not a large dose of Q. though.

Georgia, that's no nice of you to you to so much trouble - thank you!
A lot of the info is quite complicated and over my head ;-), but definitely gives me the general gist, which is really helpful. I haven't found what COMT means yet, but hopefully it's in there somewhere . . . I'm sure it's something really obvious and is staring me in the face, I just can't see it yet! ;-)
Thanks again, your help is much appreciated xx

COMT is a gene that makes an enzyme that is used to process dopamine and estrogen.
