Yesterday, he had his initial consult, and I had a follow-up.
So, when he walked into the office, he said matter-of factly, 'Your Igenex is positive for lyme disease'.
Then my husband gave him his history...including a bulls-eye rash several years ago...and his symptoms of fatigue, joint pain, brain fog, and testing as hypothyroid, resulting in thyroid meds. The meds worked for awhile, but now isn't feeling good again, even after an increase.
I gave him his labs over past few years - showing his TSH, T4 in range now...but only one T3 test was done in a span of about 4 years.
He did a thorough exam, and felt my husbands glands - neck, arm-pits, and groin area. The ones on the neck had a bit of swelling. He also said my husband's throat has some red strips on it...and said it is often seen in Chronic Fatigue...and also lyme disease.
Did a bit of a neurological exam - checked his eyes - tracking. And asked him if he had floaters...my hubby said he did (news to me!)
Asked him a lot of questions relating to lyme and co's infections.
He asked if we would allow a blood draw and have it sent to the U.S. for TSH, T4, T3 and RT3.
He indicated that if the RT3 is too high, then he would like to add T3 to my husband's Thyroxine. If the RT3 is in range, then he wants to still tweak his meds...perhaps adding the Armour to the T4..
He wants to see if we can get him feeling better first by treating thyroid.
He said if after treating the thyroid, he is symptomatic, still...then we will treat lyme. He said, at this point, all his symptoms could be attributed to low thyroid function. But, if he still can't get to symptom free, after tweaking thyroid meds, then he said we need to get at the lyme. It may be responsible for the thyroid issues.
I am happy he isn't starting lyme treatment at same time...I like his approach of one thing first...and see where we're at...how much is lyme disease...
I will post a new thread about my appointment later.
Our total bill > $800.
yikes.
