It is my understanding a lot of lyme patients have Epstein Bar Virus. I tested positive for Lyme, and have symptoms that are more depression / brain fog related, in addition to joint pain. I do not have the typical symptoms of fever that goes with EBV. My doc said I should start some antivirals and see if that helps.

If we don't have the obvious symptoms of EBV could we still have a problem with it? I know the testing is kind of subjective and lots of people show positive on it even if they dont have symptoms.

I don't know if they are positive or if they show a past infection. My understanding is it's clear if there is a re activation of EBV when the titters are completed. I have chronic ebv and there are times the re activation doesn't show which means I don't currently have, but my past titters always show that I had it.

I have symptoms like fatigue and low grade fevers, sometimes chills.

i don't think the antivirals will hurt you, especially if ebv is reactivated on your lab results. I also don't know if they help either?

95% of the world's population has EBV. If you ever had mono you will have high IgG titers indefinitely. Reactivation is usually determined by an IgM titer response. Some doctors, such as Jose Montoya at Standfords CFS clinic, believe a high IgG can be an indicator of an active infection, but I don't believe this is any evidence to support this.

FWIW, I was given a CFS diagnosis before I found out I had Lyme. Based on my elevated IgG they treated me with acyclovir and I stopped after a month because I saw no improvement and it was tearing up my stomach.
