Tick Borne Powassan virus on the rise?

I found this article trending on FB, has anyone heard of Powassan? If this isn't anything new in the Lyme community, maybe it is just trending because of the recent Lyme stories in the media?

And I have to wonder if the prevalence of this in humans is under reported. I have yet to find anything that reports on consistency and accuracy of testing on those who are sick. Maybe this could be yet another co-infection in the mix that is causing severe neuro issues for some?

That is scary. Ugh!

I wonder if other things transmit it and if it resolves itself?

Well and let's not forget the mysterious Bourbon virus that killed the Kansan farmer not too long ago. Because these are viruses, there is no treatment. One must just support the immune system-but if it is transmitted along with other infections like lyme disease, it's no wonder people are so sick! Immune systems are beyond overwhelmed!

Without all the right testing, I really think this could just be barely scratching the surface on everything that is being commonly transmitted.

And great point LG- because it is a virus, it's seems plausible that it could be transmitted by mosquitoes, etc as well.

That is a really big problem Lymie Mom. People get bitten. They may or may not pick up a virus and get Lyme. Then, they are told they only have a virus and they should wait it out with supportive care.

Among other theories, I was told I had Parvovirus and to wait it out. Thank goodness I did not just wait around and I went to an LLMD. I did not test positive for Parvovirus. I tested positive for Lyme antibodies.

Then I read somewhere a lot of people who have Parvovirus also have Lyme. The symptoms of bad Parvovirus cases sound exactly like Lyme. A lot of people with Parvovirus could have Lyme and not know it. It makes me sad. In the meantime, they are not doing anything to treat. it is such a big mess.

The Powassan Virus sounds horrible. Too many diseases and not enough info. They are still discovering new spirochetes. It is also becoming much more global. Things that used to only be in Europe, Asia or Africa are turning up more and more here. It is crazy!

I agree, and that is why looking at dr. K's approach seems to be the way to go. He doesn't treat just Lyme, he treats lyme + co-infections + viruses + worms + mold + etc etc etc

I think looking forward, we have to find more natural ways to treat these diseases because many herbs have other properties besides antibacterial
1. increase immune function
2. repair of damage caused by virals/bacterials
3. organ support
4. Immune modulators
5. synergistic effects with other herbs
ETC etc etc
Abx can't do any of that, create resistance, have side effects, and do damage long term. They are ok short term to give a kill boost, in otherwise healthy people, but I do not think they are the solution long term.

I have read about Powassan Virus a few months ago and yes, I was shocked... Most people are not even tested for it. Same with EBV. I was never tested for it. Not by my LLMD, not by anyone... It becomes increasingly difficult even for LLMDs to deal with this.

With all this, adequate treatment is not even covered for most of us. How cruel!

Simela- totally agree re: Dr K. He looks at the body as a whole functioning unit, thereby covering all areas as they are interrelated. If I had my choice of doctors anywhere in the world, cost and travel not being an issue, I would see him in a second!

He is big on expelling the heavy metals too...

To protect our lyme doctors, we don't mention names in the forums, but he is very well known in the lyme community and is based out of the Northwest. Have you seen "Under Our Skin"? It is a documentary that can be watched via YouTube ;)
