Does bactrim treat bartonella?

Hi all,

I've read so many conflicting things everywhere about bactrim treating bart, still not sure. LLMD was hesitant to give me rifampin so I'll be asking about bactrim for bart. Just wondering what people here think about it.

I think it does. I have been on Rifampin for a few months and added Bactrim because I felt that it wasn't as effective as it was in the beginning. Within a few days I had the worst herx that I've ever had that lasted for two weeks.

I've been told that one antibiotic reduces the effectiveness of the other but that was not the case for me. The only issue that I have with Bactrim is that it was very rough on my stomach. Much worse than Doxy was.

Bactrim is the same as Septra (or similar)?

I believe Chapelle (forum member) used Septra combined with Zithromax to treat bart and she has successfully finished treatment.

Hmm that's good to hear. I've been reading about it and it does sound like a great drug that many LLMD's are using. I think I will definitely be asking about it at my next appointment.

Yes, I was given bactrim for bart by LLMD. It has definitely helped me.

It does. I took it for a while and may go back to it. It was stirring up my Bartonella and Babesia, but I was not seeing a lot of progress. Maybe, I had a high bacterial load from Bartonella.

It did not hit my rib pain and issues, which I associate with Bartonella. However, other meds are hitting my rib issues.

I think you just have to try it if your doc prescribes it and see how it works. Everyone responds differently. You won't know until you try it.

I have heard good things about Beyond Balance products for Bartonella, as well as Bryon White products (A Bart). You can also look into Buhner and other herbal treatments for Bartonella. I'm using a combo of antibiotics and herbals.
