I just had my picc line pulled in March & found a tick on my collarbone on Saturday :(
I started Doxy Saturday and have been on it since.

The bite is getting red/rash.

My LLMD's office is not being helpful right now. I spoke with him on Sat. night & he said to take two weeks of Doxy, but his office staff won't even pre-authorize the rx, they instead reprimanded me for not being in a few months. I am 5 hours away.

I have rifampin, tindamax, zithromax & an old Doxy rx in my possession.

Please advise.

The doxy is the best thing for a new infection. What you are actually doing is stopping any bacteria from replicating, if they are there at all. While not every tick has diseases, it is good you are doing a preventative. Some doctors say just one dose is enough for a preventative, but it sounds like your doctor is being extra careful with his two week recommendation.

How old is the doxy rx? They expire after a certain time (probably says on it). Your doctor should be able to call in the prescription to your pharmacy. When dealing with the office staff, just remind yourself that they are working for you!!

Oh no!! I'm so sorry you found another tick! I think you need to talk to your doc again and tell him his staff won't do their part. That seems so wrong. I hope it gets resolved soon. Keep us posted.

The Doxy rx is actually DORYX, extended release doxy.
It's from June 2014.
The pharmacist says they throw out any abx that are older than 6 months. So, mine is old.

I can't get to my LLMD thru this staff person & I will complain about her to him if I do hear from him.

I even called my rheumatologist who ordered my picc line for me, and his office staff is very unconcerned as well. They said they won't get back to me until tomorrow.

I can't believe how bad it still is for lyme patients. So bad.

All pharmacy's automatically put a one year expiration date from when the Rx was filled.
The Rx manufacturer's bulk shipment have should have a much longer shelf duration. Some folks will say that the tetracyclines will go toxic after one year, but that myth was debunked long ago.

I would consider pulsing two (2) tindamax for two days after the first week and then at the end of second week, just incase any spiros turn to cysts.

What dosage of Tindamax are you referring to, tickbite?
