Proof that aggressive treatment works. Here are some emails from a woman in Utah who was flying to DC to be treated by Dr. J. (Theeee Dr. J). It's interesting to see the combo of meds he uses. Note his super aggressive treatment of babesia. Interesting.....
"My LLMD is Dr. J, and it is so hard to say which abx worked for me as he used and combined so many over the past year I have been seeing him. IV zithromax, tigecycline, and cipro seems to have been pivotal in my turning a corner. But also several rounds of Daraprim and Coartem, along with 7-8 months of Mepron was also crucial. Babesia was stubborn for me and once it got under control I started feeling a LOT better. Hope that helps?
As for now, I'm feeling better and better each month. :)"
And this one......
"Currently I only fly to DC every 2-3 months as I just transitioned from IV to his oral program. While I was doing IV I had to fly there every 4-6 weeks! I did a LOT of traveling last year. A lot of long flights feeling super sick. The sacrifice was worth it, he is a brilliant doctor. He does use Clindamycin in his IV program but not as extensively as some of the other drugs. I am back on oral Clindamycin since "graduating" the IV program. Jemsek does not use Rocephin. As far as if I like him or not... I LOVE him. He has been the most empathetic, caring, and brilliant doctor I've ever been to. He has been worth every penny. He listens to you, he tells you why your body is doing what it is doing, why certain things are happening, and he does everything in his power to incorporate medications and practices that will alleviate your discomfort as much as possible through the process.
I came to him only having had 4 weeks of oral abx from another doctor, which made me so sick (think near death). Prior to that I had never taken an antibiotic for anything in over 20 years. So I was basically a fully loaded patient... bacteria wise. It was a really, really, REALLY difficult program for me to complete. I feel I have been through hell and back. But if I had to do it, I am so glad I did so through him. Honestly... again, worth every penny.
From what I've gathered, Dr. J doesn't care to test for co-infections, he assumes you have babesia, he assumes you have bart and mycoplasma and all of that. And he treats you for everything. And he does so aggressively. I believe this is why he has such a high success rate. So when it came to my Babesia problem, yes, he starts out with Mepron and arteminisin, but as the months go on he will begin to stack more and more meds and get more and more aggressive. 8-9 months in I was taking 5 medications to treat Babesia, and that's what did it for me. He knows what he is doing. I can't recommend him enough.
Also, I know he won't recommend his IV program to anyone he feels he can get better through orals, so not everyone goes the IV route. I think a lot of people think they need IV, and he may disagree. I've learned to trust him ;)
Let me know if there is anything else you ever need, I am so happy to help others through the terrible experience that is Lyme!"
