chills/shivers/goosebumps on one side of body?

Anyone get this?

Before I knew I had lyme & co, I would be on a hot and sweaty run and suddenly get the shivers and goosebumps. I blew it off because someone told me it could be dehydration, so I just drank more before my runs.

Just recently, I started getting the shivers/goosebump sensation on the right side of my body, mostly on the right side of the back of my neck and up to my scalp. It's really creepy.

I am currently on Azithromycin 250 mgs 2 x a day and it is otherwise kicking my butt.

So what is it? Lyme? Babs? Bart? Does it mean the meds are working or destroying my nervous system on the way out?

I get goosebumps on only the left side of my body with that same weird feeling up my neck/scalp. I'm not diagnosed with lyme yet but I'm waiting for my results. It's nice to see that someone else is experiencing some of the same symptoms as I am.

I am curious which labs you two did for testing for Lyme? And which bands you hit positive on.

As of right now I have conflicting labs for Lyme as well as doctors that wont agree. I have been fighting for answers for 6 years with many doctors. Just keep in mind before you jump to Lyme conclusions, there are only so many symptoms you can have. Im not saying rule it out, but I will say if I have Lyme. It has been by far the hardest to diagnose MANY MANY doctors and even specialist have missed it.

My chills sensations started in 2009, and I have had them ever since. They occur ever day multiple times, sometimes they happen back to back repeatedly. Even on antibiotics they were occurring and before I started those antibiotics I was also getting a "heat flushing" through my body with them.

Yes, I get most of my symptoms, including chills, tingling etc... on the left side.....

Marine-I agree, this is, by far, the most frustrating illness EVER!!
I hate how misunderstood and misdiagnosed this is....

I get shivers - a lot on my right leg, but also up my back, and then sometimes a whole body shiver...it's awful. Sometimes the cold triggers it...and sometimes, it happens when it's warm, too.
I do have nervous system involvement, so I'm thinking it's nervous system agitation from bartonella, or lyme. I also have vibrations in my body (yup - different from the shivers)...as well as internal trembling sometimes (yup - different from the shivers and the vibrations)...so hard to describe even to my LLND.
I also have nerve pain - upper left side - shoulder blade/left arm/hand...


I'll be one happy camper when the nervous system stuff settles down...that's for sure.

Girlie- I have had the vibrations too, in my brain, very disturbing. But I am with you, it is completely different from the chills sensation. So we agree it involves the central nervous system, just wish I could figure out if while on abx, it is part of a herx from either lyme or bart, or just random symptoms due to nerves being damaged. I had the chills before treatment and then had doxy, then mino, then a month of stuff for Babs, and now zithro and this is the first time I have had them while on treatment.

Alyrose- I do think it has something to do with lyme and co, would just like to narrow it down a little further. I hope you get answers soon!

Marine- I used to have my test results in my signature, not sure why I no longer have a signature! I was diagnosed by a family MD with a positive Western Blot, I am assuming it was Quest labs. IgM Bands 23 and 41 were positive. The most recent confirmed tick bite was spring/summer 2013. I have since seen an LLMD and he confirmed lyme and co as well- based on the test result, the bite, and the laundry list of symptoms. Of all the doctors you have seen, were any of them LLMDs or LLNDs?

lymie mom, well that is good you caught it somewhat fast. I remember being bit by a tick around 2005 im sure it wasnt the only time. But majority of my symptoms started happening in 2009, at least heart, eye, lymph, and neuro involvements all around the same time. It took 4 years before Lyme was even considered. Which Lyme was even thought of until I had my first brain MRI because they wanted to check me for MS based off my symptoms which I called an ambulance for.
Before 2009 I just had some mild back pain, tingling, and joint pain/inflammations on occassion. But then again I was in the Marines, and it was easy to blame our training on it. Not to mention I was on anti-inflammatories for a long time which helped dull it down some.

Most people get chicken pox when they are little and that exposes them to the varicella zoster virus. This virus lays dormant in our system until our immune system is weakened and then it presents itself as an attack of the shingles. It only affects one side of the body. One third of the adult population also carries a form of the Herpes Simplex 1 virus. It may or may not ever express itself as a cold sore (fever blister). It often doesn't express itself because our immune response keeps it at bay. When you combine both of these viruses with other viruses and bacteria, our immune system gets stretched pretty far. The tingling and shivers may be from the varicella zoster virus migrating along the neurons and your immune system is preventing them from causing an outbreak of shingles. It is often a virus that causes problems with only one side of the body.

I was getting the chills and tingling and then, because of several stresses (holidays, flu, and travel), I broke out in a case of shingles. So I agree with Georgia Hunter's explanation.

I highly recommend boosting your immune system and getting lots of good rest!
