Interesting to see that we are not the only ones who take antimicrobials longterm:

"I am a 24 year old female and I have had severe, cycstic acne since I was in third grade. I have been taking Bactrim DS (double strength) twice a day as prescribed by my dermatologist for over 10 years now without any problems. My dermatologist has me get blood tests (Hepatic function) to make sure my liver is working properly because he told me that in rare case Bactrim can cause liver damage. Possible liver damage is the only side effect my dermatologist has warned me of and I would assume other doctors prescribing Bactrim would also be giving their patients liver function tests. But other than getting a blood test every few months, I have had no problems and Bactrim does help along with other topical acne medications."

Yeah, it definitely makes me feel better that we are not the only ones. I will say I would much rather have acne that resembles boils than Lyme and co. Doxy is also widely used to treat acne, and it's not uncommon to have very long courses.

Actually, that's part of what frustrates me! We are not the only ones on long term abx, but those Dermatologists aren't facing losing their licenses for it!

That's right, Trav! I think some teens with acne are prescribed minocycline for a year or so, too.

There's something fishy goin' on.


Also, some specialists will even diagnose RA without the blood markers...and put people on meds for that long-term. (I think it's prednisone?)

What about fibromyalgia - there are symptoms...no blood tests, no imaging...just symptoms...and they arrive at a diagnosis.

but Lyme disease..."Oh no, you couldn't possibly have that. There aren't any ticks here." hah!
Then the next week there's an article in the local newspaper about treating dogs a.s.a.p. for lyme disease when they pull up lame....what a joke!!!
