Hi all,

So I started Biaxin and Plaquenil back in early February. Since then, my symptoms have all gotten better. The only thing (and it is a big one) that is bothering me is insomnia due to Biaxin. I have tinkered with my meds and supplements for a couple weeks to see what was causing these sleepless nights, and it is indeed the biaxin. I am so relieved because I'm at about 80% right now and continuing to improve.

But this insomnia is very bothersome. I know sleep is imperative to the immune system but this is the best I've felt in nearly 2 years in terms of lyme symptoms and I really don't want to stop the biaxin. Not sure what to do. I've tried taking my abx very early in the morning and I still have a sleepless night. I am on biaxin xl so I'm wondering if I were to go on the regular biaxin if it would get out of my system faster and I might be able to catch some sleep by night time.

Any thoughts or input?

Hey Dazed- first off- congratulate yourself for reaching a milestone! 80% recovery is wonderful and continual improvement is what we all strive for. I recently bought the Fisher Wallace Stimulator, I have not tried it yet, but it's supposed to be great for depression, anxiety, insomnia and possibly chronic pain. You need a doctor's script for it, but if you google it, you will see a lot of people have good things to say about it. It's worth checking out.

Great link, Mr. Mike!! Although I do have a word to say about one of the herbs - Valerian. It can give some people very vivid nightmares, although I did use it for a long while.

LOL!! Yeah, my hubby called it the "stinky sock herb" - but it worked well for me for a long while!!

I don't think the valerian would give me dreams worse than Lyme did--I used to dream I was killing someone or went to war every night LOL Seriously, and I don't even know how to shoot LOL

Thankfully, not sleeping well was never my problem, but it is for my children. We find ashaganda works for now. Son is sleeping better and we no longer use melatonin which the neuro prescribed for him :) He sleeps on his own now :)

Personally I use a combination of hops & passionflower - works like a charm - weened me off of YEARS of taking sleeping pills nightly. The hops is sedating and the passionflower tells my mind to SHUT UP AND GO TO BED!

Good stuff!

I'd experiment with how to get some sleep while on the medicine if you know it's working. I feel for your struggle though - hang in there!

I know what you mean, Simela - when I was infected and untreated - and pregnant, I had such vivid, horrid nightmares, it got to where I wasn't sleeping at all. Any time I closed my eyes, the nightmare picked back up where it left off!! Horribly disturbing images of car crashes and other things, and always with children involved!! shocked

So valerian use didn't do that to me, so I was good with it!

But if you know that it's the Biaxin, why not change to a different abx?
