So, I visited a hypothyroidism forum on behalf of my husband.
As some of you know - I've been asking for help in switching him over to Erfa after being on 100 mcg of T4 for 4 years +.
Thanks for all your help.
According to one of the 'experts' on the forum (thanks Utahgal for introducing that forum to me - and she said 'howdy' back to you...lol) - she felt that he should just switch to the 60 mg of Erfa...as continuing on the T4 and ramping up on the Erfa, he would most likely overshoot because of the T3...and he could end up on the hyper end of things. Also, she said it's less confusing for the body, to do the switch - she did say 'in this case'.
She said when someone has been on T4 replacement...and is switching, that starting at 60 mg. is a good place - and not to bother with 30 mg plus 1/2 T4, and then 45 mg plus 1/2 T4, and then 60 mg no T4.
She thought just taking the 60 mg daily, for four weeks, getting tested, and then based on FT3,T4 and TSH coupled with symptoms....adjust accordingly...by a little more Erfa if needed....wait 4 weeks again and ....adjust accordingly.
Maybe a little T4 might be in order after several weeks of this....
So, what do you think about that....My husband took half of his T4 yesterday and today. Yesterday he took 30 mg of Erfa. Today he's taking 45. (as he already took 1/2 T4 before I got my info)
But, tomorrow, he will stop the T4 and take 60 mg of Erfa....
Probably the worst that will happen - is he will be hypo...but I think that's better than hyper....
