Anyone with lyme had to have any surgeries?

I have been dealing wth a minor foot ailment for almost a year. I should have taken care of it back then because now I deal with the lyme. I would have to stay in bed and off the foot for a weekend and then wear a boot for a week or so. I am concerned regarding the antibiotics I already take as well as afraid for the healing process.... And if I will heal easily now that I have this lyme to worry about Has anyone experienced surgeries and how did they go? Thanks for any input. Moosiey

Hi Moosiey- great question and something I think about all the time, literally all the time.  Same thing I wish I had surgery on my right shoulder years ago now I wonder if I have to get it done.  But, the thing is your body is already under so much stress, and it is working overtime to fight lyme and company.   People have a hard enough time healing from surgery when they're perfectly healthy, imagine doing it with Lyme?  Your concern about healing is valid, I really do think your body will not have the energy, resources and strength it needs to recover properly from something as traumatic as surgery, and it could really hinder your healing process in lyme treatment.  My advice is to wait, if you can, until you are healed and well.  Is this minor foot ailment definitely reqiuiring surgery?

DaveNJ41. Yes. It does require surgery albeit minor. I can tape my toe and it has a helped a little but it needs correction. Problem is I'm not coming along too well in the healing with the lyme yet. My dr knows what I have is tick related by he is not sure what to treat it with and so far nothing has helped. How about you? Are u on the road to healing yet? I hope so. Thanks for your thoughts. They pretty much mirror my own. Moosiey

I was diagnosed in 2002 and after antibiotics and the IV, I still had on and off relapses with the neurological lyme symptoms. From 2010-2014, I had no symptoms and was great. In August of 2014, I had elbow surgery and 3 days later all my neurological lyme symptoms returned. The symptoms are on and off since then but I haven't felt the same since I had the surgery.

I guess everyone will react differently. I've been diagnosed and treating since March 2010

In June 2012 I severed both tendons in the small and ring fingers of my right hand. I was on IV at the time with PICC in left bicep so I was already challenged. They re-attached 3 out of 4. Tendons scarred up pretty good during re-hab so I only regained partial use. Lyme seams to like to live in injured areas.

In May 2013 I had a hernia repaired. No issues.

Last month I had to have a very large and two smaller kidney stones removed. I was just winding down on my last ABX. This was the most stressful to my body, but still no issues.

I had no serious flare-ups of symptoms following any of the operations. You just need to stop
any Rx or sup that thin the blood, which a lot of our lyme meds tend to be anti-inflammatory in nature.

I had surgery in the midst of lyme symptoms...but two months prior to the lyme diagnosis.

The scars have been slow to heal...and I now have one area that is a bit red and sometimes has a burning pain.

I have had to have surgery - both emergency surgery ans planned surgery - while in the midst of battling Lyme - most of them were done either before I knew I had Lyme or were an emergency.

I had very long recovery times, increased symptoms, the whole works. And I agree that Lyme seems to like scar tissue, likely because it's so much harder for the immune system or abx to reach it there.

Personally, I would avoid surgery when the person is able to while battling Lyme and company.
