Louise,
My ANA has been positive for several years. anywhere from 1:80 to 1:640 in the several times its been tested. Before I was diagnosed with Lyme, I was sent to a rheumy. After throwing a lot of money at him, he finally told me they probably wouldn't know exactly what I had, at least to the degree to put a name with it, and promised to treat my symptoms and keep me comfortable. This to me made it sound like I had an incurable disease and I was going to die from it. I stepped out of his office and havent returned :p
My LLMD said a positive ANA is very very common. While mine is a bit higher than he normally sees, he said he wouldn't pursue it until the Lyme was under control. ANA basically measures antibodies that cause inflammation which is afterall fairly common with lyme. After he explained that, it kinda made enough sense to me to shelf anything with the rheumy until after my lyme was gone.
