Does a rheumatologist treat Lyme disease?

No, a rheumatologist will not treat lyme. I took my positive test results to mine and he said he would only give me a month supply of meds. And he did not know how to read my lyme test.

You need a doctor who is literate in lyme disease, LLMD. If you post where you live someone on the forum can send you a list of those doctors. I found that rheumatologists, neurologists and general mds do not treat lyme unless it is from a bulls eye rash and even then the meds are not given long enough.

I absolutely agree with Sueg. Most doc's won't touch or address Lyme disease. You need to see a Lyme Literate doctor ("LLMD").

You are correct Jasflower that the distinction between IGG and IGM does not matter with Lyme. Lymies frequently have suppressed immune systems and cannot adequately produce the antibodies to show up on tests. There are a number of other reasons for this As well.

If you're symptomatic, that means you could have an active infection, which needs to be treated. An LLMD would be your best option for diagnosis and treatment.
