I started taking "Immune Renew" by NOW brand. After taking, I completely stopped getting colds all together! It has a Muchroom complex and Astragalus.
After reading that Buhner doesn't recommend Astragalus in chronic Lyme, I stopped taking it. I did start taking it again for a little while and during that time I got the most bands on the Western Blot than I ever have, so it did seem to boost my immune system. Don't know if I should start taking it again or not as I'm not sure if I should follow Buhner 100%.
Any thoughts on the Immune Renew I mentioned?
We take cordyceps daily and astragalus (500 mg) 3x weekly (M, W, F). Neither my daughter or myself have had a problem with this dosage.
When I initially trialled astragalus I used the recommended amount on the container (500 mg 3x daily) and the flu-like inflammation was terrible - I could hardly function. Lower dosages don't seem to cause that problem. And I do still notice an improvement in immune function with our present dosage. Few colds etc. compared with neighbours, friends etc.
My thoughts: If astragalus/mushroom appears to help I would continue to supplement with it.
Even Buhner says not to follow his recommendations 100% (this is in the new Coinfections: babesia and anaplasma book). If a suggestion works, great; but if it doesn't don't hesitate to discontinue or try something different.
