I'm worried. My son last year had a bullseye rash on his leg. I think he got bite by a horse fly. Anyways the next day I brought him to Dr. And was given a cream that healed it. I didn't see any ticks on him as we were at the cottage and I always inspect his body. Should I worry?

Hopefully, some parents of children w/ lyme and confections will come along and offer support. We have a great forum here and many wonderful and knowledgable parents. What might help while you're waiting for responses is to list any symptoms your son is exhibiting that might indicate he's not feeling well or acting normally (physical, psychological, emotional symptoms). Also, did he have any reaction when the rash appeared, as in flu like symptoms or aches or pains? Any change in his personality?

Welcome to our community!

Horse fly bites are fairly painful, but surely don't result in ringworm.
If you are sure it was the cream - likely an antifungal - that healed his rash, then it was likely ringworm.

Is your son old enough to tell if his stomach hurt and other things? If so, has he told you that he hasn't been feeling well? If so, what kinds of things is he saying?

If you continue to have concerns though, be sure to follow your conscience.

This happened last summer. No other symptoms. Just bullseye rash on his leg. The cream helped after a couple of days.

Since the cream cleared it up and there are no other symptoms, it was likely "just" ringworm. I would encourage you to continue to keep an eye out for unusual symptoms, a flu that lasts too long and other things though - just in case, since we aren't doctors nor can we see your son or the rash he had.

What is ring worm? And when do symptoms usually show? It's been a year now he's been good

I wouldn't worry since it's been a year and your son has had no symptoms. Whatever types of rash your son had it sounds to me his immune system is very strong so his own body took care of it. But it's good that you asked. Better to err on the side of caution.

Ok but I need to know. How does someone know they have Lyme. What does it look like. What are symptoms. When so symptoms show when someone gets infected. His rash was 1 spot bullseye.

Lyme is really a clinical diagnosis judging by symptoms. In the "New To Lyme, Start Here!" Sticky Thread on top of this forum there is a list of symptoms. Scroll down until you see it.

If one suspects lyme then they get tested (no test is 100% accurate). IgeneX in Palo Alto, CA is considered to be one of the better labs to get a Western Blot done.

The rash is often confused with ringworm by uneducated doctors. But as Denise said, if your son hasn't shown any symptoms in a year, it's not likely Lyme - but once you know the symptoms, it's always wise to keep an eye open for symptoms.

These infections can be passed from many more insects than just ticks too, and many never remember seeing a tick - although ticks can be as small as the period at the end of this sentence and still carry the infections. So it's always best to know what to look for.

Thank you all for your help!  I feel better now.  My son is 7 years old and since I was reading about lyme Diseases it popped in my head about the bulleye rash my son got.  I got abit worried.  Is there anything we can use for the summer now that its back to keep these ticks away?
