Hello,
I am new to this group and looking for information as my 4 year old daughter is currently being treated with 400mg, 3x/day, 21 days oral amox. for suspected Lyme. I removed a tiny, sesame seed sized tick from her abdomen on 5/30/15, that had only been attached for less than 4 hours and was not engorged. Over the next few days the tiny, pinhead bite mark seemed to heal. On 6/3/15 a large hard bump the size of a pea appeared in nearly the same area, and she developed a low-grade fever and chills. The next day, the lump became red, more swollen, and hot to the touch. The following day, the lump developed into a small EM rash approximately 2 inches in diameter. Her pediatrician started her on the amox that day (the day the bullseye appeared), but is not convinced it is Lyme. They are treating her for Lyme due to me reporting removing the tick. They think she has a coincidental second bite from a spider. She responded to the antibiotics within the first 24 hours, with the fever and chills resolving, and the bullseye appearance of the rash dispersing. Today the rash/bite is appearing as just a blue/purple welt surrounded by some light redness - no raised bump. I have been very good about photo-documenting the rash daily.
I am hoping to get names of pediatric LLMD's in Michigan, Chicago, or Indiana while she is on this initial treatment, just to be proactive. I am terrified of what I read about chronic/undertreated Lyme. At this point, I feel fortunate my pediatrician is taking things seriously, but I do want a to cover my bases and seek a Lyme specialist.
Thank you!!
