bartonella - severe nausea???

Hey everyone...

I've been doing another round of a bartonella homeopathic...been having terrible gut issues, GI says it's crohn's, lyme doc says I have an enterococcus infection...the herb I took (sida acuta) to get rid of the enterococcus seems to have brought bartonella back out to play...lyme doc says it's in my gut.

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with bartonella causing serious GI symptoms...normally for me it's more neuro/psychiatric symptoms...but I get these horrible flares every 3-6 months of severe lower right abdominal pain, loss of appetite, more weakness than usual and unrelenting nausea!!

I can't really do the treatment for crohn's that the GI doc I saw wants (steroids), but I'm wondering if it's possible that it's not crohn's "flaring" and it's actually the bartonella (symptoms are supposed to worsen while taking the treatment) - thanks in advance for any insights!

I DO! Nausea & GI issues were one of my very first symptoms. It was absolutely nothing else aside from Bartonella. Had every GI test done in the world, not diet related, no other issues. Also, Bartonella from what I've read and heard from my doctor, is known for causing stomach issues.

Ok... this is a little bit of embarrassment for me.

But this february when Lyme got acute; diarrhea was one of my first symptom. Together with cramp in a muscle down stairs that made my penis almost absorbed into my body. It's scared the hell of me. I week of diarrhea and then my appetite disappeared and i haven't had any hunger feelings since. Then a month later i had the most intense pain around my stomach and back. I seriously thought i got cancer in my bone. But it was Lyme. Thankfully this has not happened again. But my stomach is almost always bloated to some degree. And i feel nausea.

I blend some pealed ginger root with water and drink after i remove the fibers that wont dilute.

I'm diagnosed Bartonella clinically. And Lyme through blood test.

I used to have horrible nausea that didn't respond to any of the pharma meds. I had to use ginger tea - as Krissi said - 3 times a day for a few weeks, then I slowly backed off.

I've also had to start using digestive enzymes after a "full" meal. For me this is my one and only real meal, otherwise I basically snack a few times a day, so I'm eating only small amounts and don't seem to need the extra enzymes.

And I would go with what the Lyme doc has to say, unless they other doc's are well versed in what Lyme/Bart does to the GI system.

It sounds very much like Bartonella to me. I have loads of nausea and stomach issues. Zofran has greatly helped with my nausea. I switched my probiotics, which has helped some.

These infections can also mess with your hormone levels and throw everything out of whack. I get severe abdominal cramps when I have my cycle. I can't do anything for a whole week. It used to last a day or so.

Bart is well known for messing with your gut. I'm sorry you're dealing with this!

Bart causes nausea and vomiting in me, along with severe weakness in the legs, hyperventilation, and panic.

Thanks everyone - I have an appointment later today with my lyme doc (a lovely 3 hours there 3 hours back trip!) so hopefully she'll put my mind at ease or maybe actually give me some relief!!

I've been following the strictest elimination diet and still nothing seems to help - it's so frustrating to eat mushy overcooked zucchini and salmon and bloat like you're pregnant! Hoping it's just temporary and that bartonella is the reason I can't seem to digest a thing!

Gut issues are the worst!!
Funny - while I was doing abx for 18 months I never had one gut issue. Maybe it's SIBO, I don't know....

Yes my husband is going through the same symptoms:

- lower right stomach pain (gi doc said spasming colon)
- nausea
- stomach is 'hard' as if the intestines are seized up
- painful ball at the bottom of sternum

at last endoscopy in march, gi doc said "gerd due to lyme, acid reflux, gastritis, inflammation of small intestine"

since then he has started a very strict elimination diet - lots of bone broth, meat, zucchinis, green beans, spinach, carrots. when we try to introduce something, his stomach cramps up, becomes painful, and the nausea and gas/bloating come back.

he was dx'd with lyme, bart, babesia last year and has been doing bicillin, then rocephin IM shots. his gut can't take oral abx. he is doing flashed tinctures - some herbal bart/bab killers - and a ton of supplements for lyme and possibly mold issues. he just started taking LDN at night and we are experimenting with tiny amounts of CBD infused oil to address inflammation.

our lyme doc says he may be having a gut herx. but no one seems to know for sure what is going on. it pains me to see him like this but it sounds like most of you are going through something similar.

how can we find out if it is indeed bart? anyone know?
