Is Lyme Cured or Not

So I have a simple question with a most likely complex answer. People that I have told have asked, is Lyme a life-long disease or is it cured. I have read and read and I don't know if I know the answer. I have read from top doctors associated with lymes from other posts that say their goal is not to fully rid the body of the bacteria but to out it into submission.
I know that Trav is cured but what does that mean?

I am to the point now that I am curious to know what I am up against.

I hope I am not asking an out of bounds question.

We don't talk about things s often, because there are so many unknowns for us still at this point in time, but you are not at all out of bounds with these questions.

This is why I don't say I'm cured, I say I'm healed - to not have that discussion with every person. It all depends on just what the person's definition of cured really is.

If you look at the actual definition of the word - or as the medical community looks cancer, when you've been in remission for a period of time, you are considered cured.

If you use the word in which many "regular" people think of, then no, you can't be "cured" , only go into remission, since there is a chance that a Lyme patient can relapse.

That's why we say to always keep stress low, eat well, stay rested, and keep your immune function high to help prevent relapses. If I were to not do those things, I'm certain I would relapse, as life has a way of bringing too much stress on to a person at times.

This does not take into consideration those that get reinfected, like I did last summer. I was rightly questioned petty heavy here (LOL!) and that was part of how I became so sure that I was actually reinfected instead of having a relapse - through answering those questions.

So if you were to be test now, or before your re-infection would you test positive or negative?

I am sorry for all the questions, I'm trying to wrap my head around this. I have a 16 year old and a 6 year old, my son the 16 year was diagnosed with a life long illness already this year and now me. It's a lot to take in.

Wow! I'm so sorry. That is a lot to take in.

From what I understand, I will likely always have some positive bands. I'm not totally convinced about that yet, though. And even less convinced that it would be the same bands each time I tested. I have just not read enough on it to understand it very well.

Thank you Bellyfull, I know for some this is a hard question to know the answer to, I'm know that I would get a different answer from Dr's vs the ones who live it.
It's amazing how a little bacteria can change lives so drastically forever. We are in the age of modern medicine, you would think it wouldn't be this way buy anyways!
It is what it is and have to learn how to live with it.

I did get the info on the vaps, thank you very much!

Here is something else to consider... Deejavu (a member here) has been "healed" for like 9 yrs now... she went through alot of nonsense before finding what worked for her... she does things to maintain her recovery still.

*One thing that i found fascinating was that she found someone who showed her the spirochetes on a microscope... to be able to see something that is inside my body... would i think empower me to be diligent in my recovery.
