sweatpeaisme, I'm 52 and I was a major person working on communication systems for the military. I even tested with a prototype satellite at Lincoln Labs (a major designer in MA). We were state of the art and my kids don't understand why I can't figure out what is going on my lap top.
I actually tested the software and the chips. My husband was the person designing the chips and then he moved to several companies that make the chips and now he works selling the service of his company to built the chips (any chips). So when people ask I always say he makes the chips in your phone or what ever electronics you use.
I have a 15 year old, so I went up stairs and asked if he uses any forums and his answer was a very disdainful NO.
silly sheep, I remember those days.
teragram, my first computer was at college. Freshman year everything was punch cards. We had to make sure that everything was rubber banded otherwise when you left the building your program was gone because we had classes at a very windy area on the Hudson. In Junior year, our apartment was covered in shoe boxes filled with punch cards. When I started working, the first year was all terminals and the printouts that were wide sheets in banded green and white. Then the test department (go our own computer) it had 20 Mb. Now thirty years later we carry that around in out pockets. My first cell phone was a brick phone and I was changing companies to work for a company making cell phones.
This has been a joy thank you all for reminding that I'm not the dinosaur my kids think I am. I feel old some times because my baby has his driving permit.
Hope every one has a nice day.
Kim
