Great visit with my primary today

I had a follow up visit with my pcp today and explained to her that while most of my symptoms have resolved my memory loss is still present. I asked if she thought I needed to be on a longer course or higher dose of doxy and she looked up the ILADS recommendations and agreed! I am currently on three weeks of 200 mg of doxy a day (prescribed by ER dr not her) and she now has me on an addl 3 weeks at 400 mg per day. So, I'm thinking I may not need to go to an llmd after all. She says she is flexible and doesn't always adhere to the ID guidelines - she knows about all the controversy. Funny, I then asked her what to do with all my extra pills and she was confused bc she said I should be at the end of the course and have only a couple pills left. Instead I have 15 left - this is very telling evidence of my memory fog. I thought for sure I was taking them religiously. I have no idea how I could have missed that many doses and not even know.

She does think that the memory fog ids caused by something else and is exacerbated by the Lyme. So, she wants me to read the book Grain Brain and eliminate gluten and see if that helps the memory fog along with the addl abx. Thoughts?

Good deal on your visit, have you thought about the Buhner Protocol in addition.
Also every morning I get two ziplock bags, small ones, put all supplements for the day in one and all the herbal and antibiotics in the other so I don't miss! I have to trick myself into submission.
I also wrote on the top of each lid how many of each I have to take each day and make sure to only open one bottle at a time.

She sounds like a keeper! Gluten free does make me feel better, more clarity of thinking and less joint pain. Are you on probiotics? You may also need an antifungal with the antibiotics for yeast issues. Glad you are doing better and have an MD you can trust.

Hi Foodiegirl, I just wanted to say it is a possibility that your pharmacy did not do the count right when filling that doxy script. I have had this happen from my cvs with doxy & amox (twice with the amox). Yes, it was as many as around 10 extra pills I received. Im kinda ocd about things and pretty organized person so that why I always count my pills when I pickup prescription. Therefore while you cant totally count out it being from your memory...it may have very well been on the pharmacies end.

Its funny because they sure they dont miss a beat when it comes to filling pain medication or anti-anxiety meds though!

If you dont already, I would reccomend keeping a lyme journal. I have kept one for approx going on 2 yrs now and would be lost without it. I record every med/supplement I take daily/at what time of day and write down what symptoms I have and along if it was a bad/fair/or good day. There were too many times where I would not remember if I took a particular med during the day or not! It also helps because you can note your progress along with and when you look back and see symptoms that you used to have and that you may not be experiencing anymore!

I use a $1 composition book and it last for about 3/4 of a year for me(a few days per page).

Hopefully after you get this 400mg daily of doxy in ya though...you wont be needing to worry about charting symptoms and meds and all and will be feeling GOOD!
