Hi all - sorry, yesterday was crazy busy for me. But since I was sent an email about
this subject, I wanted to post what I had discovered:
I don't have much experience with it - although I know that my blood sugar was very much affected when I got reinfected last summer. My doc told me I had 2 points to go on the A1C before our conversation would have been about
Diabetes medications instead of just diet for weight control. Since developing thyroid issues, I don't eat enough, so my body constantly thinks it should be in starvation mode - so I don't loose weight.
I've read where others have talked about
Lyme bringing on Diabetes, but I was so overwhelmed with information at that time, I didn't try to understand yet another thing right then. So, I've taken some time to search for some information for you on the Lyme - Diabetes connection and what it might mean.
These two links contain a bunch of links on MDjuction's Lyme forum. Keebler I got to know and is very knowledgeable - you can trust her information. Scroll to the bottom of the page for a bunch of links on Lyme/Diabetes on the first link:
www.mdjunction.com/forums/lyme-disease-support-forums/general-support/11283312-type-1-diabetes-lyme www.mdjunction.com/forums/lyme-disease-support-forums/medicine-treatments/1671952-DIABETES-lyme-articles-anyone-improvedwww.mdjunction.com/forums/lyme-disease-support-forums/general-support/390696-diabetes-insipidus I'm not seeing anything where people are talking about
curing the Diabetes, but I can tell you that many experience healing from "permanent, life long conditions" when they happen because of Lyme all the time, although the Lyme has to heal first. Hashimotos's thyroiditis is supposed to be life long as well, and it healed when I healed Lyme the first time around. My thyroid antibodies are still within a good range, even though I have now developed hypothyroid condition. I made sure to ask my doc to check for Hashi's when she told me that my thyroid was low.
For links to support that a bacterial infection can trigger Diabetes:
A report that came out just this month!!
now.uiowa.edu/2015/06/bacteria-may-cause-type-2-diabetes And this one is on Type 1 Diabetes:
"It has long been postulated that the disease process leading to overt T1D is triggered by an infectious agent, the strongest candidate being a diabetogenic enterovirus."
"Recent data further suggests that the initiation of autoimmunity is preceded by inflammation reflected by a proinflammatory metabolic serum profile. The cause of the inflammation remains
open, but given that the intestinal microbiome appears to differ between individuals who progress to clinical T1D and nonprogressors, one may speculate that changes in the gut microflora might contribute to the inflammatory process."
Lyme is an inflammatory infection with the inflammation being in between the cells!!
.www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3385937/And we know that Lyme hits the intestines/digestive tract pretty hard: "Type 2 diabetes breakthrough: Imbalance in gut bacteria likely cause."
www.naturalnews.com/037336_type-2_diabetes_gut_bacteria_imbalance.htmlAnd not saying that anyone is overweight, but here is another article saying that Type 2 can be caused by bacteria:
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/294712.phpAnd we've known for some time that Lyme can cause insulin resistance. There's a ton of research that has been done on this:
