Lyme Negative, Babesia Positive?

For more than 10 years I have had progressive rheumatological and neurological problems. I suspected Lyme due to numerous tick bites, but the tests by CDC criteria were always negative. A rheumatologist diagnosed me with lupus.

After reading Horowitz's 'Why can't I get better?' I went to an ILAD doc. They diagnosed Lyme by symptoms and Babesia by testing and symptoms. After two months of treatment I haven't noticed much improvement.

IGeneX Lyme:
    IFA Bb 40 (equivocal)
    IgM 39 IND; 41 + (negative)
    IgG 39 IND; 41 ++ (negative)

Labcorp Babesia:
    WA1 IgG 1:256 (high)

Bonus:
    Testosterone 225 (low)
    CD8-CD57+ 33 (low)
    HHV6 IgG 5.20 (high)

My other docs aren't concerned by the B. duncani antibodies, and the Lyme test is negative. The HHV6 foundation says my result of high antibodies might be worth further testing.

I'm on omnicef, zithromax, bactrim, mepron, and plaquenil, are the risks of taking this many meds worth it? confused Also, I can't tolerate doses of LDN higher than half a milligram, it causes migraines and tingling.

Hi acarined, welcome to our community!

First - you do have Lyme disease...bands 39 and 41 showed activity.

Two months isn't a long time of treatment. For many people, it is several months before they see improvement.
Many different things affect your healing:
- length of time you've had the infection (probably +10 years)
- whether you are detoxing effectively
- how you manage the stress in your life
- how well you sleep
- how well you eat
- other co-infections that may not be addressed
- Fungal/yeast overgrowth
Those are a few - that I quickly thought of.

That's a lot of meds you're taking - are you pulsing, or taking all of them everyday??

And, what are you doing for detox?

When you have a moment, please take a look at the thread at the top of the page titled: "New to Lyme?...Start Here!" It's full of good information - symptom lists, detox ideas, info on probiotics.

You need to be taking good probiotics daily...and employing several different detox methods...

I hope you find this forum a helpful, supportive group of people...

Hi Girlie. I've already read the sticky. smilewinkgrin My diet has no sugars, grains, or dairy. Stress is minor, and sleep is good enough that I don't need naps during the day. For detox I work up a sweat daily by taking a brisk walk, then take a hot bath once a week to remove dead skin.

I've tried Burbur and Pinella, I noticed no difference when taking them. The full Cowden protocol gave me a migraine due to all of the alcohol.

The meds are daily, is that unusual? The probiotics I take are PB8, NOW Probiotic Defense, Ultimate Flora, and saccharomyces boulardii.

From what I've read/researched about the HHV6, is that you can't get better w/out FIRST driving down that really super bad HHV6 virus=because it actually SPURS ON the other infections...read the book, "The virus within'! Hhv 6 is the true culprit that causes AIDS-it SPURS ON the HIV virus that normally lies dormant...

But for people like me who are HIV negative, but have Lyme and co's-we end up with a non-stop battle of CONSTANTLY trying to fight infection against a virus that is more powerful. You may be able to knock-out SOME 'bugs', but all the while, the HHV6 is stirring on others somewhere else in the body!

Please, please, PLEASE-deal w/the viral load FIRST! I did 8 weeks of I.V. ultra violet blood irradiation treatment @ my ND. My MD was very much so against it-she said its a waste of money; But before that treatment I had MONTHLY herpes outbreaks and shingles of which I havent had any since March!!!! I also take antiviral daily(which I hate doing)!

I'm sorry to be SO opinionated on this but you can load up on all the antibiotics you want, but with HHV6 it's a losing game. My sister diagnosed w/Lyme & Co's in 2008, has been off-n-on ABX all these years and hasn't gotten better because of the viral load!

I'm sorry to be bringer of bad news, but there IS STILL HOPE!!!
