I agree with Marine - the ELISA will miss around 70% of those that actually have the infection, and cannot be relied on at all for late stage infections like you would have.
Even the Western Blot misses at least 50% of those that actually have the infection, but at least we can look at the bands that were reactive and know if the person is showing any signs of immune activity against these bacteria.
But again, in late stage infections, the immune function against these bacteria is unlikely since the bacteria have means of literally hiding from the immune system.
