Sincerest apologies for not responding sooner! Thankfully, Traveler emailed me.

Generally, you want to take your antifungals away from food so that they have your GI's undivided attention. ;) More specifically, the local antifungal (Nystatin) works on contact (particularly the pure powder form, which is really the most effective and least expensive stuff you can use). Fluconazole and ketoconazole are examples of systemic antifungals and their purpose is to penetrate the mucosal lining of your stomach and enter the bloodstream so it's a little less of an issue if taken w/ food.

Also, unless you know you have a yeast/fungal overgrowth issue, you can implement a preventative/maintenance approach w/ natural antifungals (e.g. raw garlic, grapefruit seed extract, coconut oil, etc.) but you'll want to make sure you take one at a time in order to prevent resistance and rotate off them every week, and replace with a new remedy. For instance, pick 4 of your favorite, take one for a week, then switch to a different one and rotate each for a month and repeat for the 2nd month.

If you KNOW you have a y/f overgrowth issue, the natural antifungals will likely not be strong enough and you should go directly to the Rx. It's also important to know if your symptoms suggest a local or systemic overgrowth. If it's local, the Nystatin is safer, more effective and easier on the body than the systemic antifungals. In the threads Traveler posted about I wrote a lot about PURE Nystatin powder, which is far more beneficial than the other forms of Nystatin.
