suggestions for niece in Ontario? -- recently bit by something and now sick!!

Hi,

Have been a member of Healing Well for several years -- have been battling lyme myself since 2012. Lucky enough to be treated by very good doc in NY and have done antibiotics and now Cowden. about 95% better (thank God) -- but it has been a tough road . . .

But I am REALLY worried about my niece. She was bit a few weeks ago in Ontario and immediately got a bruising (bullesye or not?) around the bite. Immediately felt fatigue, ongoing headache, stiff neck, now very sore hip . . . NO!!!!

Maybe not lyme - or maybe it is, but it is sounding more like it than not. I coached her and she went to useless doctor in Toronto. Doctor won't do prophylactic course of doxy and now wants her to see an ID in Toronto. Useless!!

What should I do? Recommendations?

I am on Cowden -- should I start her on very low Samento and Banderol just in case?

Other ideas as precaution till we figure out what is going on?

The Naturopath in Richmond Hill who treats only lyme can't see her till Sept. 9.

Thanks! I am really really worried and frustrated with Canada!

I'm so sorry about your niece, Trishums!!! Although I am very happy to hear that you are doing well.

Hi Trishums, I am a fellow Canadian. Though slow, I think change is starting to happen for us.

I wanted to say that the doxy wouldn't be prophylactic at this point - she has symptoms...she has lyme and needs treatment.

Yes, I am terrified that it is lyme. I have Samento and Banderol here and am getting her to start it tonight.

Any other suggestions re. herbs?

I do have the name of the ND who only treats lyme. She is going on holidays next week, but we will try to get in there ASAP!

Thanks in advance for any thoughts from the wise people on this board, esp. the Canadians!

I'm on the West Coast (Vancouver Island, BC), and we are fortunate to have several LLND's here on the island now...but the one I see is in Richmond (outskirts of Vancouver on the mainland)...and he prescribes antibiotics.

It seems BC is further ahead than Ontario when it comes to Lyme disease recognition/treatment.

I have listings for 3 LLND's in Ontario. If you would like to have those names, let me know.

Get her started eating super healthy, drinking lemon water, and detoxing in the ways listed in the "New to Lyme?" thread.

Samento and Banderol are a good first line, you can also have her start Astragalus, it will raise her immune function up to help fight the infection.

Please keep us posted on how she's doing!!

I did know about the doctor in BC . . . we are trying for someone in NY . . . closer and we have family there.

We see the ID in Toronto tomorrow. I am planning on walking in with a copy of Horowitz's book in one hand and ILADS guidelines in the other.

But why am I not hopeful that we'll get anywhere with him/her???

Trishums I'm so sorry to hear about your niece. I live in the GTA and am in need of a LLMD as well. I have seen the LLND in Richmond Hill for my testing and will now be going back for treatment (almost finished my antibiotics). I only know of a LLMD in northern NY and one in Buffalo. Also, there is a Dr. downtown who is seeing Lyme patients as well but I don't think he's a LLMD. Apparently it's a 6-8 wk wait to see him and you need a referral from a family physician.

Any suggestions re dosage for the Samento and Banderol?

I have an acquaintance in a similar situation: tick bite, symptoms, given basic 3 weeks doxy by local md and sent on his way. Given the E. Sapi's study showing Doxy actually creates cyst form Lyme, I think that just set him up for Chronic Lyme. Pretty sure that's what happened to me--6 weeks doxy, felt better, then three years later, bam, full blown chronic lyme with all the neuro bells and whistles.

His work is physically demanding and money is an issue. He really can't afford going chronic so I'm giving him a couple bottles of the above that I ordered but was put on different protocol before I even opened them Plus some other stuff, as much I can convince him to accept. But not sure what the dosage should be in this situation i.e. not currently symptomatic but....

Any suggestions very much appreciated.
