Thoughts on treatment: antibiotics/herbal

I am beginning treatment and I have an appointment tomorrow with an infectious disease doctor that has been known to treat lyme aggressively with IV antibiotics. For the past 2 months I have been utilizing the herbal protocols of Buhner and Cowden and surprisingly, I am feeling about 25% better.
Up until now I have envisioned a treatment plan that would combine antibiotics and herbals but now I am concerned that aggressive antibiotic therapy could be counterproductive to the progress I've made.
A few months ago I would have been on board with any level of antibiotics but the more I understand this disease the more I realize that getting well involves building your bodies natural immune system. I believe the herbals facilitate that idea while the antibiotics don't. Now I'm concerned that I could lose the progress that I have made by treating with abx.
I realize that everyone is different and there is no "one size fits all" therapy, but I would be interested in everyones thoughts. Thanks.

Well, I have healed twice from Lyme now without abx - and the first time was a 40+ yr old infection, so of course I know that herbals alone will heal us.

In my opinion, IV abx are the "big guns of the big guns" and should be used when the digestive system is so badly affected that the person simply can't tolerate (or keep down) the orals or herbals. IV & PICC lines come with some very serious risks and complications happen all too frequently - for my comfort at least.

I do believe they have their place - just not as often as most doctors push it. The risks don't often outweigh the benefits of other options. But as you said, there are no "one size fits most" option with these infections.

I would however, encourage you to continue using the herbals that you are - as they will continue to help you heal even if you are using abx. Many that have ended abx treatment will transition over to herbs and find out that they still herx when introducing the herbals. This tells us that the herbs reach something that the abx don't seem to for those people.

Thank you Traveler.. I am hoping that I can supplement my herbal approach with oral antibiotics. I do believe that the herbals produce a slower, wider spectrum approach while the antibiotics provide a faster sharp focused approach. If the antibiotics can get me over the healing "hump" I would be comfortable with extended use of the herbals.
