been diagnosed with lyme/babesia after 6 months of first symptoms and its been 11 months now. first regimen of omnicef/zithro/mepron brought some relief over 2.5 months then hit a wall so switched up to one round of coartem then omnicef/tindamax/A-BAB MWF and a daily biofilm protocol which brought much more relief but after 2.5 months once again started regressing. quite frustrating to say the least as i thought i was on my way to being symptom free.

the current protocol goes after babesia and all 3 forms of lyme which is great but now i'm not sure what else the doctor can do for me to get me over the next hump. looking for any other experiences and what protocols have been effective to address lyme/babesia more particularly head and chronic sore throat issues. my LLMD will be calling me shortly and i'd like to contribute to what to do next. thanks everyone.

Babs can be tough to beat. I did the Zith/Omni/Mepron routine for 4.5 month then switched over to work on bart with zith/rif/doxy had to take a break with elevated AST/ALT levels. Then moved on to IV Rocephin and oral zith, but what we thought was babs sx returning so back on Mepron too.

Over time my LLMD thought I had a stubborn, mepron resistant stain of Babs. So I stopped Mepron and added Bactrim DS to my IV mix. I also added Crypto and then Sida Acuta and Cats Claw from Buhner's protocol. Coartem also did nothing, as well as other anti-viral and anti-parasite rx.
By then I was Off IV Rocephin and plateau'd at about 50% well.

We then tried another round vs Bart with Mino, Rif and Plaq. It caused an 8 week herx from hell, then saw improvements to 80% well. After a few months at 85% we started to wean off ABX and kept using Buhner's herbs.

Long story short... when you hit plateaus make major changes. These diseases feed off each other and sx overlap. Who knows try treating Bart for a while and see how you react.

Hi Rikky,

I have found Artemisinin very helpful. I take Super Artemisinin from Nutricology / Allergy Research Group. Zhang also makes a concentrated Artemisinin (have not tried, but I'm considering). My doc has recommended Enula to get at head / brain issues. I ordered it and hope to try it soon.

Have you tried Malarone? I have not tried it. I understand it might be effective for some.

I'm considering A-Bab. Have you found it helpful? I'm trying to decide on herbal options.

I think Sida Acuta might be helpful for brain / head issues. It seems to help with my mental clarity (still a little early), but I have noticed a difference at times from it. I have responded to it more than other Buhner herbs.

Beyond Balance makes good tinctures for Babesia too (if you know whether you have Microti or Duncani or you could try one). I'm trying to decide on my best options right now.

Have you tried Bactrim DS? That seemed to hit my Babesia. I did not stay on it long enough.

Also, many are using alternative prescriptions, such as Alinia and Ivermectin. I briefly tried Ivermectin, which helped me a great deal. If you go that route, look into the risk profiles. I think Alinia might be fairly expensive (not sure if you have coverage or pay out of pocket).

I can attest that ivermectin was huge for me. It made me herx like heck, but wow it was effective and really pushed me forward. I took it once a week (18mg) along with albenza (which I wouldn't necessarily recommend as much due to the side effect profile, but I was ok, took it once a week). I dropped the albenza and am working in new meds, clarithromycin, alinia, super artemisinin, that stuff works! (at least for me)

I don't have a perfect dx so we are going for broad coverage on the meds. But I would say ivermectin is an interesting drug to explore, quite a nice side effect profile and for some people it provides huge benefits.

I have Babesia Ducani and pretty sure its a Mepron resistant strain hence the lack of progress when on the zithro/mepron protocol. There's Cats Claw in the A-BAB and A-BART I'm taking not sure how much. Coartem definitely helped me jump start progress.

It's unknown whether i have Bartonella. I have a chronic sore throat but that's it and 14 days of Cipro (albeit at a low dose 2x a day for another unrelated issue) and A-BART have yielded no change. My LLMD is reluctant to treat the potential Bart beyond A-BART which i can understand.

Totally agree with you on doing major switches when you plateau.

When on the Zithro/Mepron combo I was also taking Dr. Zhang Artimisae. I think A-BAB is working very well for me but its hard to separate it from the Omnicef/Tindamax I'm on. Tindamax is known to go after all 3 forms of Lyme and is anti-parasitic so effective against Babesia also. My LLMD did say he thought the A-BAB was the major reason for my improvements of late. My LLMD who's worked with many hundreds of Lyme sufferers said he's had very good results from using the Byron White formulas.

I haven't tried Bactrim. I thought my LLMD was going to add that to the Zithro/Mepron combo when it lost its effectiveness but he completely switched things up and in hindsight its for the better.

I will mention Bactrim, Sida Acuta, Beyond Balance and Enula to see what he says. Thanks.

Chronic sore throat could be chronic strep. I tested positive for strep and there always seemed to be a lump in my throat, which made it uncomfortable to swallow. I take 30 drops of cryptolepis every mroning and eat organic coconut oil and ginger and the lump has seemed to go away. If I stop doing this, the lump comes back so I will continue to do it.

Thanks Rikky! That's very helpful regarding the A-Bab and Byron White formulas. I'm leaning heavily towards trying A-Bab.

I will probably stick with Sida as well since it seems to be helpful. Cryptolepis is supposed to be great, but I have noticed more from Sida so far (still too early to tell). I upped my Crypto the other day to see how I would respond. I had increased head pressure and increased neck / head pain. I'm getting some kind of response, but it is too early to say.

MC-Bab-2 (Beyond Balance) is recommended for Duncani and Protomyxzoa Rheumatica. MC-Bab-1 is supposed to help more with Microti. Since I don't know which strain I have, I have not tried it yet. I will probably try A-Bab first. I have many symptoms of Protomyxzoa Rheumatica, but the symotoms seem to be a combination of Bartonella and Babesia.
