I've been on Jernigan's protocol since the beginning of August. Taking Borrelogen and Neuroantitox.
I've had herx like episodes and for the past month I've felt hungover every morning. I kept reading Jernigan's book and I found the part about
candida and the hungover feeling from the aldehyde neurotoxin caused from candida dieoff.
So I tried some molybdenum after reading his recommendation for it for candida.
I felt terribly hungover all day on Saturday and took 2 molybdenum capsules and felt tons better an hour later.
The Borrelogen can enable the body to kill candida so I must have am abundance of it.
Ive taken the molybdenum for the past two days and felt much better overall each morning.
Jernigan didn't recommend anything else for this issue in his book that I'm aware of but I wonder if there's additional steps I can take to control this.
I'm not sure how prevalent the candida is but Im pretty sure it's causing a lot of symptoms at this point.

This is a good article with a suggestion for "saccharomyces boulardii" in the supplement section.
It is a beneficial yeast that works in a way similar to a probiotic.
Excerpt from the article...
"Saccharomyces boulardii (SB) is gaining recognition for its power to normalize intestinal bacteria. Like L. acidophilus, this friendly yeast produces lactic acid, which acidifies the intestinal content and reduces the candida population. It also increases levels of IgA, an antibody produced by the intestine that is helpful in combating candida overgrowth."

Pirouette has provided a lot of information regarding Candida issues - in previous threads. She is the resident 'expert' on treating yeast/fungal issues.
Try a search using the Search tab (upper right) and put in something like Lyme- candida- nystatin.
Nystatin powder is the preferred treatment of many members here.

I follow the GAPS diet as much as I can - its very powerful and very much based on science in terms of how to heal and balance the gut as much as possible in terms of micro-flora. Of course its very much sees antibiotics as a culprit of pathogens like yeasts in the gut, but in my situation with my neuro stuff I feel like antibiotics are a must. I intend to continue the GAPS long after I stop taking antibiotics to try to restore the gut as much as possible. I drink raw milk, make keifer, take probiotics as much as possible and drink bone broth daily - thats a GAPS staple. I make my own probiotic yoghurt using the best probiotic supplements possible - culturing it for 48 hours increases the amount of bacteria vastly... then i east it mixed in with salad.. this increases the surface area as it passes through the digestive tract and a good way too restore yeast controlling flora.
There is a site that sells a very powerful anti-candida remedy called lufernon called owndoc. It gave me severe die-off and is pretty hardcore if a person can handle that. I took it for four months and the die-off eventually became minimal so I discontinued that. It wipes it out quite effectively while otherwise being inert for the human body.

Florastor is what my doctor recommends and that is what contains S. Boulardii. He suggest 2 pills 2x a day. I think it definitely helps but there's a belief I'm fighting a yeast problem in my throat at the moment. Gut is great though.
