Newly diagnosed with Lyme

Hi, I was just told yesterday that my Lyme test came back positive. I have no clue what I am looking at. It says Lyme 1.39

What does all of this mean?

about a month ago I started getting chills on my way home from work. By the time I got home I had all I could do to take care of my animals and then I'd sleep almost nonstop for 2 days. Horrible night sweats. So I am a 51 year old female, change of life right? perhaps not. This happened for 3 weeks 2 days at a time more or less.
I really never saw a rash, or any other symptoms. I hurt my neck/shoulder at work and its much better but the pain goes away and comes back in my neck.

I asked the doctor to test me because I live on 9 acres and I am in the woods every chance I get. We have deer, rabbits, fox and all other wildlife. I have found ticks on me for the last 7 years or so. Most people freak out but I just got so used to seeing them and feeling them crawl I pick them off kill them in soapy water and no biggy. Now I guess it is.

I have not had the chills, or fatigue in a week or so, fingers crossed.
I had antibiotics for tooth issue and I started taking those on my own even before the lyme test. I thought maybe I had some bacterial infection.

Any feedback, advice would be greatly appreciated.

Showing positive to bands 23, 39, and 41 - means you have lyme disease.

Another testing factility - Igenex in California - is the best place to test for lyme. That's where the LLMD's send their patient's blood to for testing.
Those bands you tested positive for, are in their list of criteria for lyme disease.
In fact, to be CDC positive, you need a + on two of the following: 23, 39, 41. You have that, so you'd be CDC positive.



Having ticks on you, in addition to symptoms is really enough to determine you have Lyme disease. The test is just a back-up - a 'bonus' for you, as Lyme disease is really a clinical diagnosis.

The best advice I can give you is for you to find a LLMD and schedule an appointment. We can help you find one - just start a new thread titled: "Looking for LLMD in/near____" and fill in the blank.

I, too was told my symptoms were peri-menopause, but that didn't explain all the other symptoms that I developed.

Also, when you have a moment, please take a look at the "New to Lyme?..Start Here!" thread at the top of the page...full of great information - this will be a good start in educating yourself about Lyme Disease...

LuvsPiper, keep researching and reading here. There is a huge bunch of brainiacs here and they are so nice in giving their knowledge. Every question I asked I thought they might think I was dumb and they have always made me feel right at home and where I belong.

So sorry you had to join us friends this way, but you are at the right place.

I know it's early days, but after you find a LLMD please have yourself tested for coinfections as well, especially babesia which can produce copious night sweats and bartonella which is very prevalent in all manner of wildlife.

I too was diagnosed with perimenopause. But after treating myself with the same herbals I was using to treat our daughter's bartonella and babesia infections all "menopause" symptoms resolved.

Sorry for the reason you're here but, glad you found us!

You've been given great information already and I can only add the request that you visit often and post any questions that come to mind.

The early days of diagnosis seem to push all of us into a crash course on Lyme and Co. We can help you sort everything out.

Please do whatever you can to get in to see a LLMD. I found mine through the ILADS referral service:

I would agree that you most definitely have Lyme with those test results. Bands 23 and 39 are Lyme specific and won't cross react or show up as positive for anything else other than Lyme disease. You now need to find a Lyme Literate Medical Doctor(LLMD) to treat you in order to heal well.

For information on finding a​n ILADS ​(International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society)​ trained​ LLMD in your area, you can send me an email by clicking on my screen name or the small blue envelope under my screen name. I may have contact information for some LLMD's in your area as well.​ ​Please include your state and area that you would like to find a LLMD in and I will see how close I can get to your location.​


You can start a new thread titled something like "Looking for LLMD in the (insert the nearest larger city & state) area". Members can email you about the LLMD's that they see in that area since you have your email enabled. We don't allow doctors names to be posted though.


You can email the Tick-Borne Disease Alliance at​[​​url]​[email protected]​ for LLMD referrals and you can go to ​tbdalliance.org​​ to learn more about these infections.

Thank you everyone, I tried emailing you Traveler but it keeps saying I don't have an associated email. Don't know what it means. Anyway I did post a thread, I am in Northeast Pennsylvania. Someone local told me about a doctor her son is seeing for Lyme. I know I cant post names here. Could you email me names if you have any please. I was on a site but they were ID docs, neurologists and psychiatrists. Thanks again for all the input and links. I'm still in disbelief that I have this disease.

Huh, that's odd - but sure I'll email you!! I hope you don't mind if I wait until tomorrow though - I've been on this darned computer all day and it's time for me to get off for the night and spend some time with hubby. :-)
