Good link, Pat!! Thanks for sharing! I was particularly happy to see that this was included:

As Blumenthal stated in 2008 after IDSA agreed to “reassess” its guidelines:

“This agreement vindicates my investigation—finding undisclosed financial interests and forcing a reassessment of IDSA guidelines. My office uncovered undisclosed financial interests held by several of the most powerful IDSA panelists. The IDSA’s guideline panel improperly ignored or minimized consideration of alternative medical opinion and evidence regarding chronic Lyme disease, potentially raising serious questions about whether the recommendations reflected all relevant science.”

So sad. I'm glad they finally figured it out though. I have no way of knowing how many doctors I saw before being diagnosed. The internet has made it possible that these stories and information about these conditions reaches the 'average' person though, so it's helped tremendously.

Thanks for all the links everyone-I have lots of reading to do. I watched the Under our Skin documentary, but not the follow up one. It's amazing what people have to go through to finally get help. Honestly, without the internet, my sister would be even sicker than she is now--my mother, in her upper 70s, and disabled sister were bounced around to countless doctors back when she had IBS, then Fibro and CFS and NONE of them offered any help what so ever. All they did was order more blood work, and make referrals to each other. Thanks to the internet, I was able to figure out how to get her out of those three nightmares, but what she has now is worse than all of those. Without the internet we'd be lost. It's only the Lyme forums and Buhner books that have been any help. I'm personally done with the medical profession--they never helped me with any of my health issues (denied I had a thyroid problem for years and years, until one of them finally looked at my free T3). At this point, I do my own research and try to help myself.

LauraJK - that's how it is for me as well. I had to find the doctors that were willing to listen to me, not just run tests and refer me to yet another doctor. That's why there is simply no way to know how many I've seen over the last 45 years of being sick. In Mpost's post, the little 8 yr old that had to see 23 doctors? I'm sure that I saw that many by the age of 10 - I was 37 before I got my Lyme diagnosis.

I'm down to only using natural meds as the pharma drugs don't work well at all for me, even if they are designed to treat exactly what I have and there is only one doctor in my area that isn't (literally) afraid of herbs and natural meds - and she only treats adrenal and thyroid issues. So I'm left to deal with whatever comes up on my own with the help of this forum and others.

Sad that we used to be able to turn to doctors for this kind of stuff.

Wow, Traveler- I just read your story--I had no idea you were sick for so many years. What an inspirational story--it definitely gives me hope for my sister.

blush Thank you, Laura. I was very lucky to have not had any life threatening conditions arise during those years. Maybe my immune system really was doing a good job??

I'm glad that it gives you hope for your sister! We all need hope that we can heal and the body is a very amazing thing when it comes to healing to be honest. Had I been left at my worst point instead of healing - I'd have to have constant care, as I couldn't really take care of myself. I feel very blessed to have been able to find my way to what helped me to heal. The people here have helped me tremendously, and I hope that you too will feel the same way. :-)
