When to retest child

My son is currently on Amoxy for 5 weeks. I want to have him tested through Igenex (had Labcorp WB bands 41, 66 IGG). Is there a certain amount of time I should allow after antibiotic course before testing? Don't want this to go on too long if he needs continued treatment but want to give it time to be accurate.

What is the purpose of the additional testing?

If it's to see if he's done treatment - there is no test that will determine that.

Since he is getting treatment, then is another test needed? (Sometimes we test because a Dr. won't treat us - and we need to 'prove' that we have LD)

Well, to be honest I am not even sure he has lyme. I know there is debate about band 41. He had a major dental surgery in August and has an ongoing metal spring leading in to his gum right now, which seems a prime area for bacteria. He was very swollen for a week after surgery.

Also, the ONLY symptom he's had are right after he got the meningitis vaccine (swollen groin lymph nodes which have now gone down and felt sick). The pediatrician put him on Amoxy just in case and she really doesn't know much about lyme. Nothing came up on IGM.

I thought testing through Igenex would clear up if it is lyme or not. Surely the 5 weeks of amoxy wouldn't cure this if for example he got Lyme from me. But, it could provoke more bands, right?

I am not up for treating him without symptoms if I don't have good evidence that it is lyme. I would need some symptoms or lyme specific bands to do that. Does this make sense?

I see. I understand now.

Well, Igenex is a better lab for Lyme and co's testing, but unfortunately it still might not be a Positive result.
Hopefully, if he DOES have LD, you will see some a Lyme specific bands on the WB.

As far as the antibiotics provoking a better response - I have read that you need to be off antibiotics for a few weeks before doing the test.
But, I have also seen posts on this forum stating that it's not necessary - that you can test while on abx.

I'd like to hear what other people say about having to go off the abx before retesting.
